OK, the meds have kicked in. I'm not a theoretical math kinda person (but I married one). I'll
trust ya'll to figure out if this guy is full of crap or not. Main point being that there are
people in the world who have time to do this kind of stuff. I appreciate his efforts and hope that
he lives far from
me. His favorite color is blue?

speed times, distance travel. equals. Favor color is blue. As the crow fly.. Two birds of a
feather.. Which came first the chicken or the egg.. Like a Dove.. The falcon or the eagle.. so whats
your point?
(X) (Y)=(X) spped of a swallow is.(X) So if a 200 pound woman wants to run at say 8.5 on a treadmill
. so what. If RR wants to keep a runner from flying. again so what. If an individual wants to
keep another from posting. again so what. The speed time . Whats your point.

Our resident expert on "swallowing" has spoken.
Thanks Layne. I'm a big fan of Monty Python and got a kick out of the web site. I printed it out and
my daughter (also a Python fan) is taking it to school today.
Would someone please repost the link? I don't read Layne and Dot (mr and mrs boring) so I missed it.

Now, now, Bill. Jealousy is a stinky perfume. Although I do appreciate the company you place
me in. :-)
Google should have the link since most of my posts have archive allowed. Hey, that way you could
catch up on what you've missed!

Well, the Strouhal number part is fine, but it obviously doesn't go far enough. That
non-dimensionalization -- fA/U, where f is the flapping frequency, A is the amplitude of flapping,
and U is the speed -- is missing something important, as shown by the comments about the lengths
of the various birds' wings.
What's needed is a second geometric parameter, i.e., the length of the wing. That can
non-dimensionalize against the flap amplitude, so l/A.
From the results mentioned at the web site, we can expect the Strouhal number for optimal flight
to be a decreasing function of
l/A (lower strouhal number for longer wings).
It is left as an exercise for the Black Night to derive the precise relation.
