uk.rec.photo.misc?
I quite like photo.net - it has an American bias but there are a lot of Brits on there.

There's a lot of people on uk.rec.walking into photography. It seems to get discussed regularly.

As Zog said the uk.rec.photo.misc would be you best bet for this country as a newsgroup. Otherwise
the rec.photo.*** groups are more specific if more american biased.
I use digital myself so the forums I frequent wouldn't be as relevant.
One site I would recommend for any photographer is:
http://www.luminous-landscape.com/

Mostly there's one exceptionally prolific individual who goes on ad nauseam (anorak is far too mild
a term). Don't encourage him more than necessary
- he doesn't need it.

Finally, someone takes a stand against Humbug. Three cheers for Austrian shop workers!

Even if the guy who writes it is mainly out to demonstrate what he can do with digital kit you
couldn't even dream of buying?

Try www.dpreview.com. Even interesting if you're not digital.
