Help! Knee injured from stretching??

View Full Version : Help! Knee injured from stretching??

I posted awhile back. I'm returning to running after several years away. I spent 4 or 5 weeks
building to where I could run an easy two or three miles. Then I started to have some shin pain, and
having battled that monkey before, I immediately took a week off before it could get out of hand.
During that week I did some stretching and flexibility exercises (the usual ones) a couple of times
a day. I also did some strengthing exercises...wall shin raises and heel walking for my shins, and
quarter squats and step downs for my quads.

All seemed fine, and I was ready to do some light running, when after a couple of hours at my desk
yesterday, I noticed my knee was very stiff. I stood up, and felt pain directly under the kneecap.
Yikes. It got steadily worse to the point that I have trouble walking normally. I can't walk down
stairs without significant pain when my knee hits about 45%. I don't feel any grinding, or anything
catching, just stiffness and a sharp pain when I bend it. What the hell is this all about? I hadn't
even been running in a week.

Any ideas on what I may have done? It simply appeared from nowhere. I'm doing the usual...ice,
anti-infammatories, and obviously I've not resumed running. I guess if it doesn't respond I'll
try to see the doctor, but I've never had good luck seeing the doctor for such things. (It hurts
when you run? Then stop running!) I'm extremely frustrated. I'd just gotten started, now this.
What the hell?

That's what you get for stretching, stretching is evil, invented by nike to cause even more injuries
than their ****ty shoes do!
