What advice do you have for keeping dogs away when running? Has anyone used one of those Dazers. Do
they really work?

I wear a small fanny pack and carry a small cylinder of pepper spray in it. I've had to use it about
4 times in the last year and it has disuaded the would be attacker dog nicely.

Ultrasonic (or those that produce audible noise) devices are not effective.

In a former life as a utility meter reader I found that picking up a stick or some rocks and acting
like you were going to hit or throw will stop most dogs or at least confuse them. Only for an
emergency, of course. I wouldn't recommend carrying a fannypack full of rocks around with you. 8)

Hello,

I recommend pepper spray. I've used it several times and it works great. You used to be able to get
this everywhere but it's a bit harder to get these days.

To my knowledge it doesn't cause any type of serious damage to the dog and it defintiely works. The
key is to make sure you're upwind (or the dog is downwind) when you use it because it can blow back
in your face if you don't.

Good Luck!!

Be very careful to keep it away from your body. A fellow worker had one leak on his pants (not
running clothes), waited a couple of hours before cleaning up and changing, and wound up with second-
degree burns.

A small spray bottle filled with a mixture of water and ammonia works very
well.

The best thing to do is smear poop in the dog's face. And don't worry, as thin skinned as you
joggers are, there wil be plenty of the stuff available.
