FOR BLOKES EYES ONLY!
Update on that dreaded pimple....
Tried off the shelf hydrocortisone cream and germalene for the past 2 weeks --- no improvement whatsoever and Couldn't get my hands on Eskamel. It doesn't appear to be available in the British Isles.
So, eventually after 10 days of not touching a bike, I went to the Doc this morning. He basically said that none of the above work really - especially if it's badly infected. He has put me on a course of antibiotics and has prescibed me an anti bacterial cream with a weak steroid, and told me not to cycle for another week. This is the worst possible thing that can happen right at the beginning of the season.
For the record if anyone gets one of these dreaded dreaded pests, here's what he has me on:
Fluciliin Capsules 500mg (1 three times daily) (Flucloxacillin)
And the cream: Fucidin H. (Contains Fusidic Acid and Hydrocotrisone Acetate among other ingredients...)
My advice after this chronic experience is see a Doc straight away if you think you have an infection down there....
Sounds more like a boil than a pimple to me! :o
And the cream: *Fucidin H. (Contains Fusidic Acid and Hydrocotrisone Acetate among other ingredients...)
I'm with you on this one Collumbo, because my wife suffers from Eczema, my house is awash with different skin creams, and whenever I get the dreaded itchy sweat rash, Fucidin is the cream that I swipe from my wife's vast collection.
Just as a thought, I have tried my wife's Hydrocotisone Cream and it doesn't seem to work, so it must be the Fusidic Acid in the cream that does the job.
If it makes us feel any better.... Get a load of this. http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/2002/mar02/mar06news.php
..."Vainstains will miss Milan-San Remo because he'll be recuperating from an operation in the next few days to remove an abcess from his scrotum..."
Errrrr - no thanks, give me the cream and tablets any day.
Oowww, that can't be too pleasant! :o
MEN ONLY NEED READ THIS...
Antiobiotics failed to clear it up - this is now 6th week off the bike. Had to get it removed under local anasthetic yestderday - recovering now with 3 stiches and must wait as long as it takes for the wound to heal..... this is $h!t! I'm going drinking.
Sheez! I hope you had the doc send it away for analysis? It could return, you know.
Good luck with the recovery.
Hi
I dont know if I would feel good about putting vasiline in my shorts. With all the heat and bacteria there that builds up it seems that would promote saddle sores more. Vasiline is petrolium, it doesnt fight bacteria, they make other things for saddle sores like BUT-ter IN USA. chamois cream is meant for these things. Id try www.google.com and serch there it is a great site and is in all sorts of languages, again Im not one to tell people what to do, its just a suggestion, god knows Ive had some saddle sores in my time, and its not fun!
Dura
The best ever and inexpensive cream for that tender bottom is Milking Cream, which you can get from your chemist. It really works. Discovered it during a cycling tour to Durban.
Milking cream is Aqaueos (sp?) cream, yes?
The weather has been pretty good so I decided to go for a long (for me) ride - 50 miles.
By half way it was pretty uncomfortable. Sweat being the reason, when I got home the wife said I should try Sudocream (it's the baby cream for nappy rash) and the result is excellent.
I've also been reading earlier posts in this thread and wondered if anybody had any updates on what's the best stuff to put on BEFORE I go out on a ride.
Lazarus, the best stuff I reckon is called 'Relief'. You normally have to ask for it in the bike shop. It isn't the kind of stuff they have on the shop window... It's good stuff and I haven't had any wierd problems since I started using it... I ultra cautious now after having had problems in that area before.
Thanks Collumbo I'll look out for it.
Beer is the best ? - it just a pity that my body doesn't agree. ;D ;D
I also got the advice that Aqueous cream helps, but shortens the life of your chamois.
I've had a few saddle sores and find them most irritating, so you have my sympathy.
