Distance Watch Calculator
View Full Version : Distance Watch Calculator
Hi all, I'm looking to buy a watch distance calculator. I do not necessarily need a heart rate
monitor, but that would be a plus. Does anyone have any suggestions ? I am aware of the Timex with
GPS, but the GPS is not useful indoors and is heavy. There is also a Nike, but I have not heard much
about it. Any advice ? Thanks !

Search the group archive with google for "Nike SDM" and you'll find lots of threads about it.
Cheers, Jolle!

I'm curious. Why do you need a GPS indoors? If you're on an indoor track, wouldn't you know how big
a lap is? I'd put more emphasis on a hrm if that's the case.

It would help to have an idea how you intend to use a device to be able to give advice, esp. if
you're running indoors. I'll have to admit this is the first time anyone here has asked about a
gps indoors.
Using google, you'll find *lots* of threads about the various devices, including the more recent
Garmin Forerunner, which seems to work quite well for distance estimates outdoors based on the
scuttlebutt I'm reading in a bunch of different places. It appears to pick up signals better than
some earlier devices, at least based on one person's experiment of one.
