View Full Version : Another New Year at RBR
We had some great Classics, the best Tour in years. The D3 teams (Damn, that's a "Mighty Ducks"
movie. If you've got kids you know.) made life interesting here in the States. There was no Nicole
Reinhardt tragedy to dampen the year. The community stepped up to help Eddie B after the fires.
We've got some really solid kids coming up. Women's cycling is growing, and seems to have finally
found a working formula. Sabine and the Bella's have done a hell of a lot and given us some great
laughs. The loss of domestic pro teams would be tough, except that this last years explosion of d3s
made a lot of amateurs into pros who are now unemployed. There are still good regional teams that
are there for those dedicated enough to do the amateur dream. We lost some big sponsors, now we need
to sell the sport more as the economy comes back and health declines. Almost all of us are still
here, actively or lurking. I'd say that as a group we are doing well, but given the average
education and intelligence level of the group, combined with the loner tendency in roadies we have
our problems that most peole couldn't even begin to understand. Fortunately we all have the escape
of long solo miles to make what we will of. Happy New Year to all of our dysfunctional family Bill

Someone told me of seeing a cartoon, years ago. Pictured are a large building, with a huge
parking lot, and a giant marquee that reads "Convention of Fully Functional Families". Two cars
parked in the lot.
Happy New Year to you, too, Bill C. "More miles in '04" --Tom Paterson

I've always figured that, if you can manage three or four hours on a bike alone with your own
thoughts, you're doing OK.
Happy New Year!
Bob C.
And Happy New Year to everyone from me as well. Though I don't see the "family" as disfunctional at
all. That is except for "Kurgan".

Mrs. Kivilev and others might disagree.

Hey Tom any "family" that has you, me, "kurgan" , Trdina, Brian, etc... in the same group is
probably the poster child for dysfunctional. Bill C

Yeah, they would, but I'd doubt any of us here in rbr knew him. I'd bet a lot of people here knew
Nicole. It's the difference between seeing something on TV and having it in the family. I just wish
that the UCI would establish a fund or insurance policy to cover racers, and provide for them if
they are disabled, or their families if they are killed. Bill C
this year I resolved to ride my bike in lieu of just reading about riding it....
