New bike store chain
The Dutch bike store chain Profile, is coming to the UK according to a job ad in the Sunday Times
today. Claim to have grown to 230 stores in the Netherlands in 8 years. Anyone know anything about
them? Good news or bad news?

Profile shops are not the very specialictic shops in Holland.

Profile shops may (in general) not be *the* specialist shops in Holland, at least they offer a fair
selection of bikes and accessories for the majority of cyclists - like most of us.

This is not Profile's website, but the site of "Profile Eurobike" in the city of Amersfoort. Every
Profile bicycle store bears the name "Profile" in combination with either a fantasy name (like
Eurobike) or the name of the owner (like "Profile De Kruijff"). Part of these shops also have their
own website.
The central website is at www.profiledefietsspecialist.nl. Profile is a shop formula of Euretco
(www.euretco.nl). This company also exploits the formula "Fietswereld ("Cycleworld",
www.fietswereld.nl).

Hope they employ cyclists, unlike Decathlon who employ morons.

This would seem to be their web site
http://www.eurobike.nl/
I believe that the Dutch Profile organisation is similar in concept to the shops here in the UK that
are members of a "buying group" - that is, the shops are individually owned but operate under a
national brand - with the small shops benefiting from the central buying power and
advertising/marketing (not dissimilar to franchising, but with the local name and flavour retained)
From what I have seen they are, as Marten says, for the average cyclist - neither extreme mountain
bikers or roadies - just the leisure and pleasure brigade.
