View Full Version : Brooks Addiction 5

Noticed that sometimes finding my size in the Brooks Addiction 5 is hard to do, even at many
Internet merchants. I asked Brooks if an update was coming, and they denied it, suggested some
merchants that carry better assortment.

This weekend at the Disney Marathon expo, found a Brooks representative and asked him. He admitted
the Brooks Addiction 6 is due out in May, promises shoe will remain mostly the same, but with more
cushion in the forefoot .. hmmm, I hear "more weight" and "more cost" coming.

But could signal a price drop for the 5 as it goes out of circulation.

The NB 815 is a pretty decent copy of the Addiction, but much lighter. The forefoot isn't as stable,
has a noticeable inward roll and you feel every stone and pebble. Not bad for shorter runs, don't
know if I'd make it a marathon shoe.

So there's that.

The 6 is basically the same as the 5 but with gel in the forefoot. Didn't seem to be any heavier and
is the same price as the 5. The 5 is our best selling shoe so we get worried when they change it but
the changes looked okay.

Most people in our shop who try both on think the Addiction has nicer cushioning. It's not often you
see such a blatant copy of another running shoe.

Jim,

Just wondering if you'd mind commenting on the Brooks Adrenaline GTS model. I have just purchased
this, and am intending to run a marathon in 3 months time. it feels great for me, and is replacing
my old Asics 2050's which were great also. They appear to be very similar shoes, and give me no
problems, but just wondering what your opinion was.

Thanks, Brendon in NZ

The Adrenaline is our best selling shoe in that category (cushioned stability). It's more stable
than the 20*0 series shoes from Asics mainly due to more dual density EVA in the midsole and that
plastic support piece on the medial side. Another great thing about the Adrenaline (and Brooks shoes
in general) is that they usually don't make great changes to their shoes when they update them.
Asics is notorious for radically changing a shoe when it's updated and they're still updating their
shoes every 12 months unlike some other brands which are going to 18 months to 2 years. The
Adrenaline has become a big seller over here nationwide and has really put the hurt on some other
shoes in that category.

Do you by any chance have any feelings on why they changed the toe box sizing of the Trespass 2 from
the original, at least in the women's? The overall design improvements really do seem to be
improvements, but not sure why they changed the toe box, which had been a big selling point for both
Trespass and Adrenaline. I have e-mailed Brooks with my $.02 :)

I know every review I've read indicated the toe box was kept as wide if not wider than the original,
but all the reviews were by guys, and I haven't gone back to those groups yet and re-quizzed them.
Trespass 1 had identical fit of Adrenaline women's wide for me - recommended by my PT. But the 2 is
very noticeably narrower - it fits like most of my old shoes - tight across ball of foot and maybe
snugger in toe.

I just picked up some Adrenalines for everyday wear (and may get more for running) since they're one
of the few shoes that have a wide enough toe box for me. I heard there's a new model on the way
there too, so maybe I better do this soon ;)

Just curious. Thanks.

We don't carry the Trespass so I can't comment on how the fit has been. The Adrenaline will be
updated in March but I don't think you'll be able to tell any difference between the current one and
the new one (the update is basically color). The Adrenaline does come in Wide so that might be
something to consider if you need even more room. And, for fall there will be a second color option
on the Adrenaline (grey).

Thanks. I knew there was an update coming, but didn't realize it was this soon.

I am using the wide, and that fits perfectly. And the original trespass "standard" was the
same width.

Thanks.
