calf and shin injury

View Full Version : calf and shin injury

Liam Muldowney

I was on my long weekend run this morning, when at the 3 mile mar I got a fierce shrp paim in my
shin and found it quite difficult to walk home. Then, when I got home, my calf on my other leg
became very painful and now I find it sore to walk on.

Any thoughts on a recovery? Should I run again soon? My shin soreness is now ok, but it does feel a
little tight.

I'm a bit new to all this.

I am perhaps not the best person to offer up this advice, as I am sadly impatient with my injuries,
especially my shins of late.

But, if you are getting sharp pain, front and back, you are truly not giving your connective tissue
time to strengthen enough to handle your increased mileage. Cut back down to a distance and pace
that you can handle pain-free and then increase at a more moderate rate. There are plenty of build-
up programs you can follow.

Best of luck.
