Garmins forerunner 201

Sticky

All,

For those interested in the Forerunner 201 (http://www.garmin.com/products/forerunner201/), I
emailed Garmin to ask whether it would be possible to download the tracks to Garmin's MapSource
software, the response is below:

Dear Sir, At present it is not plausible to do this. Sarah Chaddock Garmin (Europe) Ltd

The logbook software has been released, and it seems to (from what I have seen by downloading the
software and trying it without my Forerunner arriving as yet) allow you to download the track, and
see it on the screen, but not superimposed on a map, so you just get to see the shape of the route.

Has anybody had a chance to use the forerunner much yet? Any thoughts?

I love mine. Seems to do everything I expected.

I've been using mine for three weeks now and love it. Being able to see my pace continuously has
already started to improve my time. The logbook software is rudimentary and obviously a first kick
at the can for Garmin. They've upgraded the Forerunner software a few times already (adding interval
training with 3.0) and I expect that they will do the same with the logbook.

Is there some other place to wear it other than on the wrist (beltclip maybe)? It looks way too big
for my skinny wrists.

I have very skinny wrists and it fits me fine. It has a velcro strap so it will fit snug. If you
have real skinny wrists I guess you could wear it around your bicep?

I apologize for my geeky response about to follow, but here it goes. :)

For anyone out there with an MSDN subscription, I have been playing around with the XML file in
MapPoint 2004. I am creating an array of location objects from the TrackPoints in the XML file, and
using the Shapes.AddPolyLine method to plot my runs onto the street maps.

I am also using the "Lap" data from the XML file to create MapPoint Pushpin objects. It looks
pretty cool.

I started out using the MapPoint ActiveX control embedded in a standard exe projet, but I am in the
process of turning it into a MapPoint Add-In.

I have had the Forerunner for about one week and its the best motivator for running or biking. You
can download the demo version on Topofusion. Then with your Garmie connected to the pc it will
upload the gps data from the watch and then download the aireal photos from the microsoft teraserver
if you are connected to the web. You can view your run or bike ride with with pictures of the actual
places you ran. Its worth the 40 bucks to buy a license for the software so you can remove the 1/3
part of the map that have the word demo on the tiles. Go get the Demo its very cool.
