injury identification, is it a groin pull?

Wpacarro37

Last October and November while training for the Honolulu Marathon, I started getting a muscle pain
on the muscle section across my pubic bone. I have had pulled groin muscles playing tennis and those
felt more between the legs. This one feels across the front of the hips. I went to my doctor and he
said he did not think it was a hernia. After resting a few weeks, I didn't notice it. But this past
Monday on the Great Aloha Run, it started getting tight at 5 miles. When I finished, it was the
worse. I could barely lift my left leg without pain in that region. This has affected how I walk and
now the pain has included my left hip. I think this is because I lean to my left to relieve pain on
the pubic area.

Any idea what this injury is and what I should do? Thanks for any input.

Tennis and jogging. Gee, it's the daily double of pansy activities.

Freese and Realbitchy should jump in with advice, they are both experts at ggroins (not their own,
but experts none the less)

Hi,

I've felt your pain a few times in the past. Usually after slipping and/or falling. The muscles in
the groin area do lots of work keeping you vertical. They can get strained if you stress them by
slipping, as I have.

In my case I had to keep off of running for a few weeks (maybe 4 or 5) and then start back SLOWLY.
This is an injury that responds well to rest and getting opposing muscles stronger.

The web site referred to below should have the information you need to recover.

Gee - did he "not think" it was anything else? black plague perhaps?

I would advise going to a different doctor, any replies here are likely to be guesses and you would
be far better off seeing a professional.

Rob.

ISTM I've read that hip joint problems may be felt as pain in the groin, not necessarily in the
joint itself. Any reason to suspect that might be true in your case?

You're right Doug. I guess that would make it a trifecta then.

I put five pound weights on each boot and, from a sitting position, raised my leg from the floor to
a 45° angle with the leg straight (100 reps). This may be hard to do until you get a little recovery
in process.

Do a search on Osteitis Pubis.

Very common with soccer players and long distance runners.
