Hurting hands while on my roller
View Full Version : Hurting hands while on my roller
I just am getting back into cycling and just started working out on my roller trainer. I have been
spinning for a little while and have not had any problems with my hands bothering me. I am keeping
my elbows bent and was wondering if there is something wrong with my bike geometry? Is there a site
that goes over if you have a part of your body bothering you it could be this or that? Is this the
proper NG to ask a question like this? If not, could someone let me know what is?
Thanks, Curt

I do lots of long roller rides -- 90 minutes to 2 hours, commonly. Though I can ride four or five
hours out on the road with no significant hand pain or numbness, after an hour on the rollers, the
hands start to buzz. Strangely, I can't be comfortable in my normal road-riding position when I'm on
the rollers ... even though it's the same bike. I don't know what the deal is with all that, but
it's just something I've learned to live with. It's part of what makes me look forward to getting
outside ASAP each season.

I get this to, I have tried changing position etc . but no change . what I
have put it down to is than you tend not to change position on the bars as
much while static i.e.. changing gear, breaking etc and your weight remains
static. you can also get it from the saddle ouch.

Interesting. I also feel strain in my neck and back a bit. I wrecked on the trainer yesterday, so I
am not sure if my neck pain is from the fall or not. I kind of messed up.
Thanks for the input. You would think there would be a site or some reading material that would go
over...if you are having pain here you could try and move or adjust this on your bike. It only seem
logical that this information would be written somewhere.

I went off the side of the rollers the other day, bunny hopped a couple of times and clipped out and
managed to put my foot down.
I can confirm without a doubt that calculated heart rate is complete bologna.
It did cause me to think; if my heart rate could actually go that high maybe I wasn't training
properly. Is it reasonable to conclude that I should be able to reach that heart rate through effort
(or do I have to scare the crap out of myself for 20+ minutes straight to benefit?)?
BTW: Roller training four days a week, anything over 40 or so minutes no matter how much position
changing I get numb hands. Never when on the road. I don't think you support your upper body weight
with your back as much on the rollers. I find early season rides on the road my back is sore.

I feel off my rollers on Tuesday. I didn't get to put my foot down, due to me
being too slow out of the clips. lol I bit it pretty good, but didn't go
anywhere. I have a few black and blue marks on me that is for certain. Not big
deal though. I got right back on them.
