Raceline roads bikes

Hi,

Looking at buying an entry level road bike to complement my mountain bike. Anyone have any opinions
on the Raceline brand of bikes, particularly in terms of quality and durability. Especially
interested in the Performance model which seems reasonably well equipped for the money. Any opinions
greatly appreciated.

Also noticed that Freedomachine is selling Giant OCR2 for $1250. Any opinions on this bike?

GIANT OCR2 is OK but OCR1 has carbon fork & a full 105 gruppo which is a so much better deal & you
should be able to get this under 1600$. If your budget can stretch it the TCR2 is a great looking
bike this year & first glances passes for a much more expensive bike. Don't sell Merida or Raceline,
but Merida are a global brand, very big in Europe, Raceline are a locally distributed brand by
Apollo. Merida has a bit more racing kudos & jazzy paintwork but stick with their aluminium frame

Hi Steve,

with respect to the Merida's, have you heard anything good, bad or indifferent about their
"Magnesium" series? I was looking at the 105 Magnesium...

Seems the general conclusion is that Raceline bikes are not bad, but not brilliant either. I think I
may stick with a more reputable brand.

Steve, you mention that I should be able to get the Giant OCR1 for under $1600. Any idea where? Most
shops seem to be selling them close to the RRP of $1899. I would agree that the OCR1 seems to be
extremely good value for money.

Had a look at an OCR2 in the shop the other day, was not all that impressed with the quality of the
frame. Welding seemed to be a bit sloppy in places. Still, for $1250 its probably still not bad
value for money.

I can get a good deal on an Avanti Vivace (carbon fork, Tiagra/Sora components, Mavics etc). Too bad
about the ugly paint scheme. Can anyone give me experiences with this bike?

OCR 2 frame is exactly the same as the OCR1 and OCR3.

Hi Sasha,
I went through these issues myself not long ago and I suggest that you take the time to test as many bikes as you can. The Giant is OK but try to go to at least Shimano 105 running gear rather than the Tiagra level. I urge you to check out the Merida Road 904. They are a fabulous bike. Full Shimano 105 running gear, a sub 10kg weight, carbon forks and a set of strong Ritchey wheels. At about $1800 it might cost a bit more than the Giant but in my opinion, it is a far better bike with superior frame geometry.
