I have checked the nett and cant find anything on this new niteflux vision stick range Has anyone come across any further information about the release of the new Visionstick as advertised by summer edition of free wheel. There's also a review on them in this edition. I am still deciding about which set up to get having also looked at the Vistalights as well. I have also currenlty been looking into the DIY by the hippy....this looks like a great set up as well, and I have seen it in action ......but uses 12V neon. I would love to get my hans on some SIX VOLT 5w,10w and 15watt Halogens and make a 6v version of his set up with nicads!! What set ups and experiences have other users had out there!! |

hi - if you are cycling on lit roads, you really only need something so others can see you, not something you see by. This consideration allows most people to eescape with low powered lights. - of the rechargeable batteries - sealed lead acids - are cheapest per watt hour ( one watt over 1 hour) , but weigh the most per watt hour. You can't use an SLA battery for cycle use (deep discharge/charge) without shortening lifespan dramatically, unless you get one designed for it. -niccads- are pretty expensive per watt hour, dont have a huge capacity, weigh less than SLAs per watt hour. People will tell you they have a memory effect, but they are ignorant. SOmething called the memory effect does exist, but only when a certain type of niccad is discharged to precisely the same point each time. it was a concern in submarine batteries, and no more . If you discharge niccads fully you may destroy it. But you can run them pretty damn close. - nickel metal hydride batteries contain more watt hours per gram than niccads, and are cheaper per watt hour. If you discharge NiMHs fully you may destroy them. But you can run them pretty damn close. Lithium ion batteries will be totally out of your range, despite being extremely light and powerful. THey are expensive, and require sophisticated charging circuitry. a 6 volt 10 watt bulb will be the same brightness as a 12 volt 10 watt bulb, but the current draw will be doubled for 6 volts. THus, if you wanted to replace a 12 volt 7 amp hour lead acid battery with a niccad or nimh 6 volt system, with a 12 watt cglobe, youd need to get 14 amp hours worth of 6 volt batteries. But NimH and niccads come as 1.2 volt cells, at about 2 amp hours a cell. so you need 5 1.2 volt packs in series. Each 1.2 volt pack needs to be 14 amp hours. So thats 7 cells per pack. THus you need 35 AA nimh batteries. that can get expensive. I personally use a 55 watt bulb and a 7 amp hour SLA. Im gonna replace the 55 watt bulb with a 35 watt bulb when it fails, as I want longer run time.
