See? phone cameras ARE handy

above is a image i snapped yesterday morning of carp in Merri Creek (at junction with Yarra - next to Dights Falls)

To give you an idea of how big these mofo's are, you can see there is a bike wheel/rim in the upper left of shot. it looked like an ol' 27-1/4 so that means some of these whales were approx 4 feet long!!!

Try this:

http://home.iprimus.com.au/adenhollander/carp.jpg

I was riding over the Merri on Heidelberg road a couple of months ago and saw something swimming in there way below. Thought it might be eels but they were silver, so I guess they could have been carp.

They're not good eating, but they are good catching!

We're going to Bonnie Doon ...

Seriously! I'm riding to Bonnie Doon on Thurs & back on Friday, anyone
want to come too
or am I on my own for 300km?

Instead of crap you get carp. Same difference, they're nothing to carp
about as these are the sort of fish that you cook with a brick, at the
end of the BBQ you pick up both, throw away the fish and eat the brick
as it tastes far better.

You can eat them, according to a french bloke I once spoke to (he couldn;t believe we were throwing them in the bin, and at each other). Apparently you have to put them in a bath for a week, changing the water daily until it doesn't goes brown from the mud which comes out of them.....

any volunteers to test the theory?

Yes carp are a delicacy in parts of Europe. If we could create an export market for them we would all be rich.

Hmmm the next time I feel the overpowering urge to kill I might just
take the bow down there. I have a fishing arrow somewhere I think.

Try burrying them in the vegie patch.. makes the vegies grow supa fast!!

One per meter square. The bigger fish the better.

Best not to let the dog into the vegie patch for quite some time though

Or the cats. Mind you, banana peels left over from making smoothies, are excellent for tomatoes.

Yes they love this fish in some parts of Europe. To them it is similar to
catching a Murray Cod. I believe the problem with them over here is that
because they are bottom feeders they taste like mud. I don't know what's
different about there native European rivers (maybe they aren't muddy
bottomed...) but you apparently don't have the same problem of them tasting
like mud. Unless of course they simply use the above method to clean them
out, but I don't think so.

Further more most fish caught in for example the Murray where carp have
destroyed the river vegetation and made the entire river muddy will benefit
(i.e be tastier) by using the above method to flush them out.

Maybe I'll just settle for bananas - good for the local industry, after
all.
