Default Pre-ride routine

What's your pre-ride routine? I'm particularly interested to know how
much other people eat before a big ride.

Personally, I NEED to have a good breakfast before a ride. I try to eat
at least 1 hour before riding, so generally have to be up at 6am to
have breakfast if we've planned for an early start. Usually it's four
pieces of toast with liberal amounts of jam and peanut butter plus one
or two cups of coffee. An extra hot jam donut or pastry from a bakery
if we're driving out somewhere is nice too.

I'm not a morning person, so my morning group rides often entail me
eating my toast on the way to the start point...

If I have time, Weet-bix and coffee work for me.

I can't possibly drink coffee before riding, or I'm busting before
long. Generally the first thing I eat is at 30-40 km; I don't get up
early enough to eat before leaving.

I only ever end up busting if I'm wearing bibknicks. Never in standard
knicks. And it's a guarantee, if I've got full jersey pockets and a vest
over the top of that!

Since I'm starving before I have even pried opened my eyes (I'm also
not a morning person. What have I gotten myself into with regards to
my new job?), I can't possibly ride without 4 or 5 weetbix in my
stomach (that's an abormally large amount, isn't it? I don't know
where all my food goes). I've really got to find something that
doesn't require so much milk though.

And then a bakery stop within the first 2 hours makes me happy.

Coffee, black no sugar. Chuck it down then on the bike and gone. I'm usually
only out for an hour though. If I'm going any further than 1.5 hours I
usually have fruit or cereal beforehand followed up with a light omelette
when I get back.

I'm definitely a morning person. Generally up at 5:30, at work by 6:30.
Rarely have breakfast. Three coffees get me through the morning. Lunch is
usually my first meal at around 11:30. Right this minute actually! My lunch
mate is late.

for a training ride, I stop at a bakery en-route (it's 5 mins ride from
my place).
for a race ... carbo loading the day before!

Not from whatI've seen in TV adds and posted here at times.

It is a matter of taste really
I find soy yuk (all versions)

Bottled fruit juices like apple, etc are usually too sweet, but some are
acceptable if diluted 50% with clean water.

That's the other thing that forms part of my pre-ride routine: a visit
to the loo to take care of "business". I don't really want to find
myself busting to find a petrol station halfway through a ride because
last night's dinner didn't agree with my stomach. Good thing is men
don't have to find a loo to pee although stopping to water the flowers
in someone's front garden on Canterbury Road could get you some
disapproving looks (especially in bibs).

The penny drops. Terry, let me guess, pure grain alcohol and rainwater
only?
Colonel Jack D. Ripper rides again?

Preferred method of carbo loading? Liquids? Pasta?

(Do you choose your beer based on the carb content?)
