Default According to the ABC news...

.... it was a speeding bicycle, as well as a bicycle race.

Le sigh. Gee, the peleton was small this morning, apparently.

actually race for real.

The field at Gisborne Sth was pretty good too.

Windy, (oh so damn windy), and warm (wish I had a team car and 70
litres of water; oh, and some testosterone patches , but a good
race.

Still dehydrated...

But plenty of other riders, although they were almost outnumbered by police
cars, police motorbikes and helicopters. A few signs on the roadside as
well.

What sort of signs?

I heard about the police helicopter on the news.

Nothing like pandering to the talkback squawkback by pulling out the
police helicopter for a ride (what's it going to do? Swoop down and
pluck any hapless pedestrians out of the way before the peleton runs
them down in cold blood?). "We've got to be seen to be doing
something... for a couple of weeks".

Spray painted on cardboard (something like): Ride for heaven, not for hell.

Exactly what I thought. Reactive and pandering. There were yellow highway
partol cars, motorbikes and normal police cars. Admittedly, they just seemed
to be driving on the speed limit and as a result, the normally speeding cars
were a bit bunched up.
