Default Gong ride

Hi,

A friend of mine introduced me to the Gong ride
(http://www.gongride.org.au). It is a non-competitive, charity event
consisting on riding from Newtown in Sydney to Wollongong going through
the Royal National Park. I checked its web site and it seemed to me pretty
nice and interesting, so I am planning on signing up for it.

Is people around here familiar with this event? What is your opinion about
it?

Cheers.

Yes

Its a fun enough day out, I'll be doing it with a few friends. It just
remains to be seen how silly a bike I'll ride.

This 100km the weekend after will be much much more fun though

Please tell me you won't be doing it on a 32:18. At least put the 44 back
on the front.

The roadie, the commuter, an SS, a 5" duallie... decisions, decisions.

Now that would be silly.

There's still probably a few council clean-ups between now and then. Or
one of these would be cool

I'm not familiar with it. It does look nice and interesting. It looks
like a good way to learn a good route from Sydney to Wollongong. So I
think I'll go on it

I'm doing the Bundanoon dash on *Saturday*

Unfortunately I'd wouldn't come close to beating Huw's 8hr cut off time
with out restoring such evil jiggery-pokery such as derailleurs,
shifters and multiple gears.

Parbs - who thinks 10hrs might have been achievable

no marshalling this one. Those in the yellow PPE ( Personnel Protection
Equipment ) are our local Rural Fire Service volunteers giving up a day or
2 so they can buy equipment to protect us .

Have a great one

As long as you are not a dyed in the wool cycle speed freak it is a
great day out.

This year will be the first time back on the old route since the cliff
road was closed because it was unsafe so there will be a lot of people
wanting to try out the new Seacliff Bridge.

How 10000 cyclists will cross the bridge now that the shared
footpath/cycleway is barred to cyclists will be interesting.

Anyway if you haven't done it it is worth doing at least once. The
climb out of the National Park is a good test of stamina for those
used to flat roads.
