The Trek Summer Sprint Series starts this Sunday (7th Oct) - details here : http://sss.aboc.com.au/ The TSSS is being run by me and a team of aboc people, and we have *no* idea as to how many people will turn up to race it. I've never run a race, or something as ambitious as this before. As far as I know it's never been done like this before - we have to run, if we get our ideal number of riders (30), 51 match sprint races in 4 hours (3 grades , 10 riders per grade, 3 rounds of a partial round robin, and 2 finals per grade). This isn't suitable for novice track riders, but is suitable for novice match sprinters - the aim is to provide a match sprint series for 'the rest of us' who aren't elite A grade sprinters. So if you've done a bit of track racing and want to have a go at match sprinting, this series is for you. The races are *not* elimination rounds - each entrant will get 3 match sprints (assuming you don't get disqualified etc!) and a flying 200. for this, you will require your own track bike and no day licences will be issued. The Blackburn regular track season starts on Saturday the 13th of October. For the regular track races, entries open at 1pm, racing starts at 2. Varied and deeply graded program, suitable for novice racers but you will need some experience on a track bike, either through the Blackburn track clinics on Thursday nights that will be starting soon (when daylight savings starts I think?), or a coach vouching for you as being safe on a fixie. Most days will start with a scratch race per grade and then the rest of the racing program will include, throughout the season, handicaps, kierins, motorpaces, points races, eliminations, team sprints and so on. The club has track bikes for hire - some tiny cost - I think about $5? And for A-C grade, it's $10 to enter, and for D-F grades, $5 (no prizemoney for D-F grades). If you've had a go at some of the DISC stuff, this may be quite enjoyable. Details are slowly surfacing at www.bbn.org.au (my apologies for the site, it's ... dated ... and the politics of changing it are non- trivial) |
