If I have time I might go down and check it out this week ![]() Somehow, I think it will be more chaotic. There are fewer cars but it is so much more choked up with fewer exits from the CBD. Combine that with the Westfields mess along O'Connell and Marsden Sts and the partial closures of Argyle and Church streets..... hehe Scotty |

QUOTE=robalert]is it happening in parramatta too?[/QUOTE] Don't think ParaMass has happened for a few years. Some of us east coasters used to go out there from time to time, but they never got more than about 20 people turn up so it was a bit hard. Trick might be to hit the unis and get the greenies there helping you out. Mass is an anarchy though, so if you want to have a go nothing stopping you. Same deal on the Sydney Mass to Manly next month - if enough people don't want to go there'll be a Mass in the city, and maybe one in Manly too. Fair bit of stuff happens by people just deciding to organise it, which is a cool way to have stuff happen. A bit interesting turning up not having any idea where you're going though. A few years ago the bike cops had to ask directions home, coz they'd never been to marrickville before. That was funny. |

Yeah, I should do it even if it is just me. I've become very comfortable taking up the lane along Victoria Rd Macquarie and George would be far easier. I often go down to officeworks in George and always take my lane down O'Connell then George. Still, I've had next to no crap from motorists who 99.9 % of the time politely pass. Twice I've had horns (a good % considering the '000's that have passed) and three times morons showing off by reving up as the pass. Realistically, I see more of that crap when I'm driving. One thing I ALWAYS do as much as possible is obey the rules (esp red lights). If I don't, then I'm just giving an excuse for morons to think I shouldn't be there. When I see cyclist cruise by me against the red I want to throttle the dope, so I can't blame motorists for that. |

The RTA, for example, looks at situations where a large number of motorists break the law as being places that the road design needs to be fixed, not as idiots who need to be punished. Taking the view that by breaking the law a person is encouraging vigilantism is the thing that encourages "unofficial enforcement" (say, by murdering a cyclist who takes the lane). Some of the people who agree with you do things like putting "your vehicle is parked illegally" stickers on the windscreens of illegally parked cars, which is always an option. I wonder if you "want to throttle" those cyclists, or whether you also think that motorists encourage them so it's OK? Stay firm on the idea that *all* cyclists have a right to fair and equal treatment. If we prosecute cyclists even at the rate we prosecute motorists (fewer than 1 in a million speeding offences is punished), then things work out OK. If we switched to punishing cyclists proportionate to the damage they do, or even the rate they kill at, no cyclist could ever be punished at all (the kill rate is negative). ThatBiker |
