I've thought very highly of Anna Meares after her comeback from a broken cervix to get a medal in Beijing. Broke some vertebrae too I think. I'm sure Mags can give us a more detailed description. Lots of pluck in that girl, but she's been a bit quiet this year as far as publicity goes. |

Really? ![]() Thanks for the info, I've seen the video, it was a biiiiiiig hit, but not that big..... Did I do it again? ![]() In all seriousness, had a tear in the eye seeing her get up on the podium, a bit like when I saw Henk Vogels on a bike again after returning from the US in a similar condition a few years ago. I've got a bit of a soft spot for people returning from head/neck fractures, but that's for the mega crashes topic.... |

On the subject of crashes, Biggest one I ever had; Going to work one day, dopey cnut steps off the kerb in front of me. Apparently I did a very good Abdujaparov helicopter manoeuvre followed by removal of skin from both hips, buttocks, shoulders and heels (the shoes wore through). The heels took longer to heal than the collarbone. Biggest one I ever saw. About 6 months after the above, I got caught in somebody else's on a downhill bend one sunday morning. Went into the pile and saw a guy I knew moderately well go left when everybody else went right. Ended up going under the armco head first. He was unresponsive and I wound up in the ambulance as I was the only one who knew his address/wife's name etc. He had a basilar skull fracture from hitting the armco support post and as we later learned, the lights were out as soon as he hit the barrier. Jeez it was 15 years ago and I still get misty over it. Anyway I take a bit of a cavalier attitude to such things until it gets to spines & skulls. As Mags has seen up front, sometimes it's more about being lucky than anything else. Somebody lighten the mood! Last edited by Helmet Hair; 3 Weeks Ago at 06:51 AM.
