Default Bike Barn in Parramatta

Hey Guys
Just wanted to let you know after a visit to Bike Barn i had today.
Went there to see what they had, as soon as i walked in was asked if i need help which i replied was just looking. No problems so far.
Not even 30seconds later, another guy asks the same question, recieved the same answer, then proceded to ask me how much i want to spend, to which i replied again that im just looking thankyou, then asked if im looking for a road bike or mountain bike, to which again i said im just looking.

I walked away from him at this stage, and he turned to another customer and asked what he was looking for, to which that customer replied im just looking. Then i overheard him say, oh you must be that guys brother then.

I know not all Bike Shops are like this, as i have had some great advice & lots of help from most bike shops. But these guys at Bike Barn in Parramatta just take the cake.

So just wanted to warn everyone out there, be very wary about going to them.

HA!
The last time i wandered past Bike Barn (after sneeringly dismissing their collection of KMart bikes)I thought (in a rare burst of compassion for what is obviously a failing business)to ask if they might happen to have a Uniglide 13-23 cassette lying about in a back room somewhere.
At the mention of "back room",the gel-haired metrosexual who was obviously on a mealbreak from the Maccas up the road, offered me a latte,a gobjob, and a great deal on a Giant hybrid. In quick succession
I quickly punched him to the ground, with what I thought was a rather finely executed left hook, made my excuses, and left the premises, continuing on my way down to Blackman's to try my luck.
Unfortunately, I there encountered Graham. Before I could say a word, Graham began his sales spiel (as usual) with "When I was racing blah blah blah...", while simultaneously thrusting a pink 20" BMX tyre into to my hand and attempting to pick my pocket in a manner which would have shamed a gypsy.

FortunatelyI always carry a sharpened spoke down my shorts for moments such as this, and embarrassment was avoided. Luckily, Carl (who really knows his stuff) was working that day and while he was unable to sell me the Uniglide cassette I was after, he did point me in the direction of some bargains comin up on some nice 7400 Dura-Ace stuff on ebay. Oddly, I noticed that the mechanics were absent from the workshop at the time. Coincidentally, my 7400 group was missing from my bike when I returned to it, but thanks to Carl's excellent advice I know where to get a replacement. How lucky was that!
I suppose I should have gone straight to Universe Cycles up the road, where I know they have a warehouse full of Uniglide 13-23 cassettes, but I was a bit pressed for time, and couldn't really wait for one of their employees to hurriedly forge Lance Armstrong's signature on it while I arranged a transfer of cash via wheelbarrow to their Swiss bank account.
The day was not a total loss though as I wiped a bogey on a Council Ranger's windscreen and found 20c lying on the ground that the smackies had missed.
So it was all good, and the sun was still shining.

Last time I for asked Carl a question the response was so childish it had me looking to hang myself from the red light camera outside.

I had to read TAN and move interstate to recover.

Carl certainly does know his stuff!
Unfortunately...Carl's stuff is nothing to do with bikes.
Generally I find the best approach to either of them is to do the exact opposite of whatever advice they offer.
I went to Universe once, looking for a small screw for an old Simplex derailleur. The lackey toldme "Nah, can't get'em any more...it's a French thread. you'll have to buy a new derailleur.". WTF? FRENCH THREAD?
Just out of curiousity, I asked if they happened to have that particular model (30 years old btw).
"Yeah, got one out the back."
"How much?" I enqired.
"300 bucks."...with a straight face mind you.
I immediately garotted him with a spare brake cable for his insolence.

well, the only two reasons i've ever gone to bike barn since i purchased my bike is for air in the tires and to drop their team. and since i've now moved out to kay, tx, i guess i have no alternativebut to do the same here. we'll see how that goes as they all probably hate me but me being me, i go right into the dragons lair, regardless.

this looks interesting. can i do 52? puleeze, i don't even wake up till 30-40.
