Default Beards pot bellies and bents

I think that some of the Ed Gin bashing of late has gone far enough. Ed is the best representitive
of our sport that is out there today. Is he perfect. No! But who is. I don't know jimmy. But I do
know one thing that he is slow and rides a trike. So what! Ed and his possy ride fast lowracers. I
ride an Aero. This is the cutting edge of bent speed riding. So What? It seems that fat old guys on
trikes want to rule in bent land. Ok go ahead and rule. You live in a dream world. The fastest bents
have the best aerodynemics and are on two wheels. Racing and recreation are two different worlds and
I think that people here are a little confused. Racing is where one uses the fastest machine and
rider to go from point A to point B in the fastest time. Monkey Island explores this aspect of bent
riding. That is where the action is. Bring your beard and your trike to the island and have at it.
And I forgot your pot belly.

I've been thinking about getting a recumbent. But I might hold off for a while. Every time I ride a century I see some old fat bearded guy on a trike with a flag and they cause all kinds of problems blocking the shoulder when I want to pass them on a narrow road while climbing.

Don't get me wrong, I think recumbents are cool. But some of the fat old bearded guys really need take a look at themselves in the mirror and consider a better diet.

I might get a Bachetta Aero or a Reynolds T-Bone because I don't want to look anything like the annoying fat old trike guys that take forever to climb a little bump in the road.

Well Willy, that is one way to look at it. And perhaps we old bearded guys should stay at home and
not clutter up your road as you're trying to pass. And you're right that a number of us don't look
like 20 year olds in our cycling outfits.

But perhaps a more enlightened (and tolerant) view might be that without those recumbents and
recumbent trikes those guys probably wouldn't be out there at all, getting exercize, staying
acitve (if not thin), and having fun in the process. And who cares how long the old trike guy
takes to climb that little hill? If he climbs it at all he is probably more active than 99.9% of
people his age.

Well said Steve. I really don't understand why some are sooo intolerant of people just doing their
own thing. I read rants all the time by cyclists regarding motorists being intolerant of cyclists &
Willy is doing the same thing with someone slower than himself. Being young can be such a struggle
at times. Tolerance of anothers uniqueness is after all one of the big lessons to be learned in
life. Let's try to see the good in others. It's a lot harder than seeing the bad, but it is much
more rewarding. OK, I'm through. I just had to try to see some good in Willy..........right off I
can see that he's a pretty good speller! & he knows what he doesn't want! & .......... ks

They're just wimps with low self esteem.

Pay no attention to the pencil neck geeks in their team color lycra and their silly black shorts
that look like diapers...

[hee hee hee] I needed a good chuckle this morning! I am very amused with these clown suits, and
"pied piper" leotards, etc. I am always tempted to wear my 1970 windbreaker with 40 patches sewn on.
Then I might fit into the rolling billboard image!

9 out of 10 'bent riders in Santa Cruz are clean shaven, thin, and wear "street" clothes.

Huh, you're too slow to pass them or what? I regularly drop MTBers with my trike on uphills, they
just don't have the power to keep up! ;p

Hmmm, sort of posts like a troll.

<sniff, sniff>

Yup, smells like a troll too. Now what did I do with that "sock puppet" thread . . ?

"Nogoslow" is a real person, and is not Ed Gin. The two are even of different denominations:
highracer and lowracer, respectively.

Hey Tom since you occasionally ride with these fine fellows you could be helpful in sorting out the
real people from Ed's sock puppets. I'm guessing Willy McDuff is the real daddy of mjrides. Is Willy
real or is he a sock?

P.S. I know you've got the trike now, but I haven't seen any recent photos. You haven't grown a
beard and developed a pot belly by any chance have you?

I am not aware of Ed Gin having any "sock puppets". I have my suspicions about the identity of some
of the other anonymous posters, but I am not going to post them.

I am working on it. < http://www.ihpva.org/incoming/tom_velocraft2.jpg >
