Default Point of order!

Someone please explain to me a basic element of the NG system: Where is the server that manages
A.R.B.R. located? Did some some generous soul donate drive space and an access to the net? Are we
stowaways on some mega-corporation's unused server?? Where the hell ARE we??

Try here to read about how the internet "works":

arbr is a usenet newsgroup. Unlike web boards where the discussion is centralized in one server,
usenet newsgroups are distributed to a gazillion different servers all over the world using a
protocol called NNTP. Once you post the message to your local NNTP server, copies of that message
get distributed from there to, hopefully, all NNTP servers around the world that carry that
newsgroup. This makes it a lot more stable than web boards, since any problems with any individual
NNTP server will only be noticed by the people reading via that server, but nobody else.

Hope this helps.

Cheers.

We are of course in "Downstate", as opposed to "Da City of Chicaguh".
