My bike dealer today was raving about some British recumbent that is faster than other recumbents. He said at the bike show he attended, the importer was having races to see how fast people could go on this particular model, the idea being whoever was fastest would win the bike. He said he got it up to 50 mph but only came in 13th--the winner being able to make it go 70 mph. but, he can't remember the name of the bike! Does anyone know what he was talking about? Pat in TX |

The Varna Diablo II with Sam Wittingham aboard is a Canadian recumbent streamliner- not British. http://wisil.recumbents.com/wisil/whpsc2003/results.htm |

I've had my V-Rex over 80 mph! Of course it was attached to the sportworks rack on my Suby while I was cruising down the highway. Dave Larrington - All he could remember was that it was curvy so that the rider's back rested against the upswing of the curve of the frame of the bike. He said it was almost as if the rider was "in" the bike instead of "on" the bike. Pat in TX |

Sounds like "generic low racer", except that the only one manufactured over here (to my knowledge) is the Burrows RatRacer: http://www.bikefix.co.uk/Eastway2003.../photo_47.html And I'm pretty certain that that Mike doesn't have a US presence at all (and they can't do 70). -- Dave Larrington - http://www.legslarry.beerdrinkers.co.uk/ =========================================================== Editor - British Human Power Club Newsletter http://www.bhpc.org.uk/ =========================================================== |

Oh, he's not a recumbent dealer. We don't have too many of those around. The closest is at Richardson Bike Mart and that's 55 miles away from where I live. He is enthusiastic about that new Giant bike, though. Pat in TX > > . |
