Default trek tri series

just recently i gained some interest in bike riding. last year i bought a fixed gear cruiser and realized the mistake i made almost immediately. my bike was stolen over the weekend, so i went down to la bicycling co-op in our neighborhood.

i really wanted to learn how to build a bike, as they teach classes at the co op. in the meantime, however, so that i could still commute to and from work, i picked up a bike that was built earlier that day. the frame is a trek tri series (red and white). i am unsure of the year and even the materials.

does anyone have any experience with the trek tri series bikes? or any information that i might find useful? i'd really like to start getting into road biking, and commute to and from work daily (10 miles total). i would like to work up to 30 mile rides on saturdays. is the trek tri series a good bike for a beginner?

thanks for any advice.
