Default Best bang for my 1500 bucks?

As the title of this forum section implies, I'm looking for a bike. I figure I'll max out spending at around $1,500, provided some great deal doesn't occur. What do you all think is the best bike I can get for my money?

-Thanks

There are a lot of good bikes for that money (is this US $?) the BMC Streetfire looks nice, the Felt F75 (I think), Cannondale Synapse, Trek 1500 and a couple of nice Giants, also I like the look of the 2007 Bianchi Via Nirone, and trillions of others, look for 105 in Shimano or Veloce in Campagnolo or higher in the components.

If it is US you're looking at - some of your fellow country-people may offer some advice on local prices. I'm in Australia and $1500 US is like an infinity squillion in Aussie bucks.
