Default First bike - Allez Comp

Hi all,

I'm currently looking at a '06 Allez Comp at the LBS. It is my understanding that the '06 is no different than the '07, but is on sale because the '08 model will be out soon. I rode the bike yesterday, really enjoyed it (though I don't have anything to compare it too), and was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on it. Full 105 throughout, $1399 at a top dealer in the Greater Boston Area. Sound good? Any other bikes I should check out in the $1000-$1400 pricerange? This is definitely on the higher side for me, but I've heard nothing but excellent things about the bike. Thanks!

The Allez Comp is a good bike but the best advise I can give you is to go to your LBS and ride as many different bikes that are in your price range as you can. I even went to (3) different bike shops in my area that sell different brands to find the one that was best for me. I must have road (6) different brands of bikes within my price range (under $1000) before I made my final decision. The bike that fit me the best was the Giant OCR-2. I got it for $829 (2007 model)!! That was under the max I allowed myself to spend.

Good luck,

Tom

Actually there is a difference between the '06 and '07 models - the '07s have carbon forks and seatstays as opposed to the previous model year, which doesn't have carbon. At least that's what they told me at the bike shop here when I was looking at the Allez line the other day. My guy speculated that the '08s wouldn't really be any different except for perhaps a 50 dollar price increase because it's the new model year.

i have an 06 allez triple (low end of the totem pole) and it has a carbon fork...and all aluminum frame (works for me) i bought it back in october for $524 brand new, they sell in the $700 neighborhood for an '07. It was a year end clearance sale. Any remaning '06s should be DIRT cheap since the '08s are out (ive seen some of specialized's '08 bikes).

im happy with my Allez. If i ever upgrade to a better road bike in a few years, it will definitely be a Specialized, and most likely of the Allez family...unless i get a real good job and can afford the Roubaix Comp they look SEXXY *drools*
