Default New mountain bike

hopin to buy a new mountain bike soon. Im looking for something I can ride up mountains ofcourse coz im fed up of road riding rite now. Stength is important because i will be coming back down them pretty fast and over bumps but needs to be reasonably light because uphill cycling is f'in hard. What sort of stuff should i be lookin for in a mtb that gives these qualities? Lookin to spend about £300.

I was thinking something like this:
http://www.ashcycles.com/power/index...oducts_id=1332

I want full suspension but how important are disc brakes? The less is better but is it generaly worth having discs?

Wow ... I honestly don't know how good a full-suspension MTB can be which costs less than £1000!

FYI. The fork on the particular bike is really marginal ... the same may-or-may-not be true for the rear shock (particularly, if it does not have a "lock out" option) ...

The fork can be replaced in the future, if you choose ...

The swing-arm design is the same one that SANTA CRUZ (amongst others) uses on a lot of their frames, so if you can live with the actual shock that comes with the bike OR buy a better replacement in the future AND make sure the linkage's bearings are maintained, you may find the frame to be a pleasant surprise!

You don't need disc brakes unless you plan to ride in wet/muddy conditions.

You MAY want to replace OTHER components (beyond the fork & shock) at some point in the future ... you can probably reduce the weight of the bike by several pounds/kilos with better parts/wheels/tyres.

BEFORE you buy the DIRTY ASSASSIN, go to a bike shop and study the bikes they have in various price ranges ... then, if-and-when you get the DIRTY ASSASSIN, you'll be better able to assess its strengths & limitations.

BTW. The fork (Marzocchi Bomber) on my Hardtail cost almost as much as the bike you are looking at ... and, it was hardly the most expensive fork available when I bought it.

I just ordered a new bike as well, it is an Cannondale F9 Bike - 2009, its Strong T6061 aluminum CO2 frame offers a solid, lightweight ride on smooth or bumpy terrain. Very good bike i've ever used.
