Default biking to alaska

What kind of bike would you guys recommend for a long distance bike trip? Say...from Minnesota to Alaska? I'm looking for something reliable, but not outrageously expensive.

Thanks!

Look at the Surly LHT. I have this bike and love it.

Maybe a Specialized Tricross. Pick your component level.

I'm sure the Specialized Tricross has a nice frame for sports riding, but its wheelbase is probably too short for comfortable touring ...

The OP should look for a bike with a longer wheelbase (like the Surly LHT) which has frame bosses/eyelets for racks/fenders.

OT. Is everyone other than myself using a 22" monitor?!?

I do all my long rides on a touring bike; I also opt for a slightly larger frame size. The main factor for your comfort will be how you carry your gear: I'd recommend investing in a single-wheel trailer.
