Hi all I'm upgrading my present hybrid and am considering buying the Specialized Sirrus Expert - does anyone have any comments advice about the bike / range? My cycling is mainly commuter with occassional weekend distances. How does this 'flat bar road bike' compare with drop handlebars? Look forward to your responses. |

I looked at the Sirrus line and didn't think the components were all that impressive for the price. I'm sure they are fine bikes, but just like Trek's Fx line, the component/price balance was not to my liking. Just one example is the Expert has a Shimano 105 rear derailer at $1500, while the Kona phd sports an ultegra at $1200. Maybe none of that means squat, who knows? When I replaced my drop-barred roadie with a hybrid, I noticed two differences. One, there aren't as many hand positions(like...1)and one's wrists are always at 90 degrees to the bars, which for me caused some numbness. I got some bar-ends and solved abt 80% of the problem. Two, without drops, there is no way to get out of the wind. Top speed is not much of an issue for me, but a headwind can get pretty annoying. |
