I just started cycling around town and am starting to get into a little bit. I am riding a really cheap bike that was a gift from work. I am looking to buy a bike that I can use for training, hopefully working my way up to triathlons. I have been to the local shops and have been given two recommendations. The Trek 7.2 and the Specialized Crosstrail. Any advice would be appreciated. I already have sizing down and my budget is around $500. Last edited by xjerome22; 08-24.-2009 at 06:00 PM. |

Also, be aware of the fit. The Crosstrail should be fitted like a mountain bike, while FXs should be fit somewhere between a mountain and a road bike. It's best to try before buying. If you're considering the 7.2 FX, you might also want to look at the Specialized Sirrus--it's equipped just like the 7.2 but it has a lighter frame and a fit that is a bit more upright. |

How about this Diamondback Insight RS Bike for only $400 bucks. Perfect for long rides on a paved trail. |
