Tim Horton's Sponsorship

It seems that the Canadian Cycling Association is charging some of our top athletes $150 for uniforms out of their own pocket. An article in today's Toronto Star explains that Danika Schroeter had to pay for her own Canadian Team uniform for the world mountain bike championships. It also goes on to explain that the uniform displays the name of the sponsorship much more prominently than that of her own country.

The Canadian Cycling Accociation states that the Canadian Cycling Association has omited funds and cannot cover the cost of outfitting the 53-member national team. Isn't the reason for sponsorship in the first place to cover costs by the athletes. Tim Horton's and the Canadian Cycling Association should have understood this and not burden the athlete. How many of us meet and consume many coffee's at Tim's. Starbuck's anyone!

Absolutley it is! That's exactly what the sponsor is supposed to do! Maybe the "sponsor's" name should be "omitted" from the jersey? Ridiculous!

Ugh! Geesh...the amount of monies I have spent at TH`s over the years!

I actually asked one of the servers at my local TH`s if it was possible to purchase one of the posters of the National Team they display every summer.

"Nope.We only get a couple for each store." she replied.

Then I asked her what they do with them when they come down off the wall.

"We throw them out."

Then I asked if she could save it for me.

" Um.....well...er..(hesitates)...um...check with me in the Fall."

Geesh......I didn`t bother. Seemed like such a big deal.

Just another example of the problems with Canuck amateur sports and sponsorship. The Athen`s games just put it in the spotlight but we have totally mismanaged our programs. Unlike the Aussies who are kicking butt! Hmmmm......we should study their systems and centres of excellence.
