Hi There,

My name is Mike and I'm from Australind in the South West of Western Australia. I'm the Manager of IT Services at Edith Cowan University. I'm 40 in a few weeks time .

I'm just starting out in the bike scene. Have an old bike that I used to commute to work on, but have decided to get a bit more serious about it. Hopefully with the help of the people on this forum I'll be able to pick up a few tips.

Cheers,
Mike

Live in Washington DC and am new to the whole posting deal. Guess I prefer to spend my time out on my bikes instead of reading email...do email stuff all day at work.

Hey all, this is my first post here.

I'm a 27 year old student from St. Louis, Missouri.

I've been riding mountain bikes for awhile now, but am still fairly new to road riding. I plan on getting in shape this winter and doing some racing this spring.

Glad to be here!

-Mark

Cool Re: Where are you from, what do you do?

Hello everyone, my name is David and I'm from Mesa, Arizona. I just moved here a month ago to begin training for a tour across America starting early next year.
I'm debating whether to take my new laptop which only weighs 4 pounds or leave it at home. I just retired in June 03 and have been doing small projects for family in Texas which is why I haven't left on my tour.
Now I'm ready, sort of and awaiting the snow to melt away enough for me to get started. If anyone has a special route they liked while crossing the US I would appreciate some input.
I'm looking at the end of Februrary or mid March to get started. I do plan to bike to San Diego to dip my rear wheel in the Pacific Ocean to signify my departure point. I'll be coming back through Arizona and into New Mexico and that's as far as I've gotten on my route. I know I don't want to stay too far south and be in the heavy humidity states. So I'm thinking about 3 states up just pass New Mexico, then shoot across the US.

Thank you ahead of time for your advice.

Question Re: Where are you from, what do you do?

Hey, just saying hello.
I'm from Adelaide South Australia and I'm just about to buy my first mountain bike. it's something i've always been interested in and wanted to try, so i've saved up and now have the money to do some shopping. I was looking up mountain bikes for women and found this site. i thought who better to give me advice on what bike to buy than you guys.

Welcome: bionic_bunny, hitdog, AnFearDearg, and Alan Obrien,

bunny_bionicI've always like Trek for bikes either road or mountain. Through the years I've own my share of them but as today I only own one Trek which is Trek 1000c and thats the one I'm using for my tour across the US. But lately I"ve have been reading up on Bent bikes (recumbents) and I would like to build one for myself. It would be a totally new project for me so I'll have to educate myself in all the skills needed but I have this idea that would be something that isn't out there yet.

hitdog nice website you have there, it's a different format and thanks for sharing your experience. Now that you've done it the big question comes up, "would you do it again?". This will be my first time crossing the US but I've read other tourllogs and some people do it again and again. I would like to be one of those people, it sounds like the best way to travel if you have time. I've mostly read travellogs from a great site call "crazyguyonabike.com", there is so much infromation there. But I like the way you formated your travellog by actually giving us "usefull information". Most of what I've read the writer loses focus and forgets about telling you what road there on and whether there are services consistantly. So many thanks for a well done travellog.

AnFearDearg and Alan Obrien, the nephew that I'm staying with in AZ has been to Ireland several times through work (Intel) and he loves the place. He said if he was single he would move to Ireland it's just that breath taking. I on the other hand have never been to Europe and frankly Europe doesn't appeal to me but Ireland and England do. I would imagine because of the accent and the pretty women there. lol I think Sara Brighton is one of the most beautiful women in the world not to mention her voice is wonderful as well.

Thanks for writing,
David

Hi David,
I think you mean Sarah Brightman, former wife of the composer Andrew Lloyd-Webber. She's a fine looking woman all right, especially considering she's English! If she was Irish she'd have a twinkle in her eye, a cigarette in her mouth and she'd sound like Rod Stewart
