Cars of all types are great. Well, except for hyundai and VW. It's most people driving them that blow. They can't wait 5 seconds to get past you and on-coming traffic, so they get real close to pass. They can't wait 5 sec. so they cut you off to get into that parking lot. Cracks me up...

I've not noticed that about Jyundai drivers. What is it with the VW drivers though? What makes them like that?

That and BMW and Honda drivers tailgate ALWAYS.

Not the drivers in Hyundai's and VW's. I just don't like the cars... Would never own them! Just like I'd never own a Huffy. 8-)

Well, i don't knwo about the rest of you cyclists, but I am obsessed with cars. Hehe, im no BMW fan. Being Saabisti, i guess you could say im quite the opposite. Hehe, but i DO hate SUVs, and, the type of people that drive them as well, Or at least the kind that drive full sive SUVs as commuters. I think i can include myself in that small percentage of americans that can "drive properly" (im only first gen american). No big-**** automatic SUV for me .

It's funny how some of you stereotype and prejudge drivers of certain types of vehicles in the exact same manner in which we accuse motorists of stereotyping and prejudging cyclists. We complain about motorists being prejudiced towards cyclists and then you turn around and do the exact same thing. Nice!

I'll admit, I do prejudge drivers of certain vehicles. Maybe not as much as you think. But I have good reason to. SUVs are gas-guzzlers. Even super tiny hybrid SUVs such as the Ford Escape Hybrid, or the Mercury Mariner Hybrid (cough rebadge cough) get only 34 mpg. My 1986 SAAB 900s gets 24/34 mpg and I can assure you, it has more luggage space than the Escape "sport utility vehicle". I try to understand why people live SUVs. Being in something large and high-above-the-ground? Wow, how fun! I'd feel safer in a Saab than in an Explorer ANYDAY.

I personally think, a well engineered wagon would take care of all your needs. Preferably a european one. With a turbo , to take care of all your torque-related problems on trips to the mountains.

Anyway, this is a bike forum, what are cyclists' stereotypes? Just wondering, are they seen as a nuisance taking up the road? Never heard of prejudice toward us.

I'm not talking about stereotyping SUV's as gas guzzlers. That's a fact not a prejudice. I'm talking about statements like: "people who drive "x" think they own the road", "people who drive "y" tailgate", and "people who drive "z" fail to yeild" and B.S. like that. It's a bunch of crap.

Are you kidding? There are plenty of stereotypes that motorists have of cyclists. Do you commute by bike? I do. 28 miles round trip almost every day. Motorists (some of 'em anyway) tend to stereotype all cyclists based on the actions of the morons out there who insist on living up to the stereotypes (just like some here are stereotyping drivers of certain vehicles based on the actions of a few). Some of the stereotypes are: cyclists run stop signs, cyclists think they don't have to yield, cyclists think they always have the right-of-way, cyclists don't obey traffic laws in general, crap like that... I assure you that these stereotypes do exist.

To be perfectly honest I don't obey all traffic laws 100% of the time either. Who does really? For instance if I'm in a residential area and I come to a four-way stop and there are no cars there or approaching, I'll roll through, or if it's to my benefit I'll get up on the sidewalk for a distance, stuff like that. What pisses motorists off are the blatant violations where cyclists disobey the rules to get around them or pass them like when a cyclist filters up to the front of a row of cars at a stop sign/light and rolls through or when club riders ride two or three abreast so it's difficult for motorists to get around and then collectively roll through stops and stuff like that. It's these actions that prompt motorists to adopt a "cylcists suck" attitude.

So I guess what I'm saying is that you have to learn when it's okay to break the rules and when it's not. LOL! I'm serious though.

Haha, exactly... shhhhhh... I wouldnt neceserily roll through a 4-way stop. I duno, maybe i would. The ones I come up to always have both sides blocked by some bushes and what not. And by the time I look in both directions, im already across the whole intersection. Im just a speedster like that .

Good point. I've seen people on bikes insist on riding two abreast on narrow roads so that they can talk when they know cars are itching to get past them. I ride a motorcycle and most guys on motorcycles are always complaining about the bicyclists that do that out on country roads. Hard to predict when a pack of bikes are hogging a country road when there's hard curves.
