I have been reading books on cycle touring for years and have always wanted to go and do a long tour myself. Now for the first time I have the opportunity to do it. I have been saving for some time to enable me to take unpaid leave from my job as a postman. I will be attempting to complete a 3000-mile journey around Europe starting in Barcelona taking in 14 countries before finishing on top of Alp D'Huez on or before my 50th birthday on July 9th 2006. I have a web log up and running at http://geoffbikeadventure.blogspot.com As you are reading this posting on the cyclingforums.com you are probably interested in touring yourself. I would be very happy to have you along for company as I am on my journey so please have a look at my site and add it to your favourites. The hardest part of this tour will be being alone for most of the time. The mileage involved is well within an average cyclists capability. I think the mental side however will be far harder as I will be away from family and loved ones for around 8 weeks so it would be good to have some company along the way. I am not really seeking technical advice. Sometimes I think too much knowledge can be frightening. I love riding my bike and have a basic knowledge of maintenance. If I have any major problems I will take it to a bike shop on route for help. Please take a few minutes to look at my site and if you are in the area of my journey around the time I go perhaps you may want to do a few miles with me. You may also know of good campsites or guesthouses that you can recommend or even know someone in the area who will let me pitch my tent in their garden for the night. Anyway, enough said. Happy touring. If you want to be kept informed whenever I update the site send a blank e-mail with "TRIP" in the subject box to geoffsbikeadventure@hotmail.comand I will add you to my e-mailing list. |

I am sure you will have a ball. If your looking for guest houses and/or places to stay as you mentioned. On my last tour through Europe I used www.hospitalityclub.org .. There are thousands/thousands of people swapping places to stay and even a cycling related group on there. Just incase you have not heard of it. ta |
