Where do you live and how nice is it?

I permanently live in Chicago, IL - in a hot neighborhood called Wicker Park. They even made a movie titled with the same name. Well the nice thing about Chicago is the attractions like great museums, a very good downtown, great shopping malls, and the thrift stores in Chicago have great selection and there are lots of them! Chicago is very easy to navigate because the city is laid out in a grid. The only bad thing about Chicago is the high traffic times during rush hour -- it's a really crowded city. When I had a 17.5 mile away job and had to drive the highway my typical commute time to work was 45 minutes. And I guess renting in Chicago is not cheap but then I've never rented because I live with my parents. Chicago is an excellent city for biking though. Many places have things to lock you bike to, there are bike paths, numerous parks to work out at, and the Chicago Lake Shore Drive is an excellent place to work out at. There are also a lot of jobs in Chicago, but also a lot of candidates competing for them. When my resume gets picked for a job it's usually among 40 other candidates. Chicago has a lot of individual independent restaurants, but in terms of fast food it doesn't have as much variety as Bowling Green, Kentucky.

I'm temporarily living in a small city - Bowling Green, KY, population 50000 people. Very low traffic and my 5 mile drive to work only takes 11 minutes. And the rents here are cheap! $425 / month 1 bedroom on a 6 month lease, $75 uitilities. 1 nice big shopping center in town and a few decent thrift stores. But the fast food selection is great and there are stores here that don't exist in Chicago like Chik Fil A, Toots, Shoney's, Krystal, Waffle House, Sonic, Zaxby's, KFC BUFFETS (no buffets in Chicago), Captain D's, Winner's Chicken, Hardee's, Tumbleweed, Fagioli's, and some other steakhouses. There are nice independent restaurant like one all you can eat pizza place for $3.99! Cheap too to live here and if you want the attractions of a big city then Nashville, TN is just a 50 min drive away! The library here is good enough and I can borrow nice music and movies for free. Biking sucks in this city because there is no good park to workout in and many places don't have something to lock your bike to. And I don't see good public transportation here whereas in Chicago it is excellent though getting expensive. I live in a good location near the big mall where I can bike around a circular block like a criterium. I guess I don't miss Chicago while living in Bowling Green, and this population has a good amount of good looking women. Only thing is Bowling Green does not have many good nightclubs as Chicago.

Tell us about where you live and the other places you have once lived at!

Tucson is now home. Muy awesome it is, from the vast numbers of cyclists and the public's acceptance of cyclists to the cool mix of Hispanic culture in an otherwise bland American culture.

Usta live in Kent, Ohio. We called it "Spent" 'cuz Kent blew its wad when the Ohio Nat'l Guard shot and killed the collge kids in the early-70's. That was Kent's cultural and social high point. Scary.

Boulder, CO: pretty nice. A little too trendy, too touristy, and too much of the "Boulder is cool" attitude. Way too crowded.

St. Louis, MO: like Bill the Cat usta say, "Aaaaaaaaaacccccckkkkkkkkk."

Fort Collins CO. Money Magazine's top rated small city. Most restaurants per square mile in US. Home to Colorado State University, New Belgium Brewery, and 1996 US Pro Champ and personal friend Eddy Gragus. Low on the snob (read Boulder) meter. HC climb 20 minutes outside of town that finishes with a nice series of switchbacks. Bike lanes virtually throughout the town although cyclists are still not always welcomed on the roads. nationally recognized group rides Wednesday Night Worlds and the CSU Oval Ride. all in all a pretty cool place to live.

I live in Southern Rome. Beautiful city, especially the centre, with lots to do and see. The riding near the city is ok, lots of traffic (obviously) but on this side of town the cars are used to riders, and there are even a few km of bike paths (a novelty here - either you ride seriously and mix with traffic, or don't ride at all).

And the food is pretty darn yummy too.

Rist Canyon 9miles ~3000ft elevation gain, the backside features a 1 mile climb gaining 1000ft. yeah it hurts even in 39x27.

complete details at www.math.colostate.edu/~estep/hdd/2006_hdd.html

click on the pdf and profile for the 72 & 105 mile routes on the far right of the page

We picked up our Christmas tree on Tuesday up near the top of the canyon and saw 2 cyclists doing intervals in a snow squall. gotta love it!

It's awful here in the Smokies. Everyone please take my advise and stay away.

Watch out for the RV's. Some of the operators don't seem to see so well.

I live in Normandy, an hour or so from the D-day beaches. Lots of little lanes, not so much traffic, and what there is respects your right to be on the road – far more than in the UK where I used to live. A day's drive gets us and the bikes to the Alps or the Pyrenees, but usually we make do with what we have round here – nothing mountainous, but constant hills and valleys with never more than a couple of miles dead flat in one go. I love it.
Oh yeah, the food's great and the wine starts at way less than one euro a bottle....

I don't like Nero. He had a funny approach to urban renewal...

And I hang by the villas on the seaside...

I live in a thatched cottage on the west coast of Ireland with no windows........that terrible english landlord has raised the rent again and me and me wife and the kids are being forced to the workhouse..............

Sorry, sorry - that was Ireland 150 years ago.

See that map of Europe - well I live on the most westerly island of Europe in a country called Ireland (beside Britain)
In fact I do live on the West Coast of Ireland in the county of Limerick.
The house where I live is located just outside Limerick City.
Limerick City has about 250k people : but where I live is surrounded by green open spaces.

Where I live is a very nice place - it's quiet and although we have everything we could want in terms of shopping etc, the real advantage to where I live lies in the fact that roads and highways have little or no traffic, so that I can cycle safely in the clean open air.

I do miss my home city of Dublin (where I am originally from) but the Guinness is far cheaper where I now live.

My part of the world is a tourist attraction : we have Bunratty Castle, Glenstal Abbey on our doorstep and 40 miles down the road is where the Kingdom of Kerry is.
Kerry is a dangerous place for people from Dublin - Kerry people constantly remind Dublin people about how the beat us in Gaelic matches practically all of the time, so I stay away from Kerry.
Cork is only a few miles from where I live - but Cork people constantly tell us Dublin people that Cork should be the capital of Ireland, so I stay away from Cork as well.
To the east of us is Tipperary - but I don't go there either.

Large volumes of tourists pass through where I live - mostly American people looking for "the auld sod".
I tell them tourists that the "auld sod" sits in the snug of the local pub and spends his day giving out about people - but it doesn't seem to register with them.
What doesn't register with me is why so many tourists feel compelled to visit our luvly little country - it rains a lot here, the cost of living is exorbitant and we've managed to get ahead of ourselves just because we're in the middle of an economic miracle.

I would much rather live in Rome but PP won't put me up!
