Alright...... I've been yelled at; chased; chased off the road--4 or 5 times one day by the same car; smacked with a hand; hit with cans, bottles, and food products; spit upon; and this past spring I had a hand surgically repaired as result of having a full soda bottle hit my hand at about 50 mph after it was thrown out of a car last November. The way I look at things, though, is that somethin' ain't fun iffin' it can't possibly kill you or at least give you a disfiguring scar. |

Just getting back into cycling, so I haven't given people much of an opportunity yet.. The other day, though, I was headed up a rather large hill on a rough county road, picking my way around the rocks/chunks of asphalt when a rock truck came screaming by with very little room to spare. The truckers around here are horrible, they have no courtesy at all for cyclists. |

Ok, I'm going to lay it out for all of you to play it out. This is the way its supposed to be. The slower or less maneuverable of anything that travels on the roads, highways, oceans or air, always have the right-of-way. Example (A) A blimp has right of way over a motorized air plane. A sail boat has right of way over a motor powered boat. A bicycle has right of way over a motorized car or motor bike, this also includes pedestrians. However this does not relieve one of their responsibilities when dealing with traffic in all these areas. Example (B). If you are in a blimp, don't try to get in the way of a jet just because you know you have the right-of-way. (Disclaimer) In no way am I the utmost authority on laws in any country. This is just some things I learned over the years. |

Hmmmmmm......not exactly. Minor scars are memories that never fade and you can brag about. Major scars are memories that never fade and keep you from taking your shirt off in public or even in private and give you nitemares the rest of your life and you never talk about what happened. Ever. With anyone. I've lucked out and only have minor scars. I've met a few people with major scars. Riding a bike can be a tad dangerous or spooky sometimes but in the end it's just a bike ride. Ain't like your kicking in doors fully armed or in a plane crash or in a house fire or............ |

On another note, have you ever screamed at someone for something? Two "bicyclists" riding against traffic when there was a bonafide bicycle trail not 20 feet away. The only problem was that they would have had to ride down a small hill and up another corresponding hill while the road ran level. Even I screamed at them. I use the term "bicyclists" for them loosely only because they were riding bikes, not because they knew what they were doing. |

I have always talked about doing a solo ride across my home state. This June I finally did it.I stayed on county roads and state highways to avoid traffic. I did however have to ride a few high traffic areas. Imagine my shock when the car that came the closest to me was a State Trooper! WTF! I find that the more people you ride with, the more respect you get. All my problems with drivers have been on solo rides.
