[QUOTE=flameburns623] By-and-large, roads are not designed for bicyclists. The original purpose of roads was to provide access for commercial vehicles. Interestates were created for troop and commerical travel and bikes should not be on them. Roads evolved from footpaths to horse trails to wagon tracks. Roads are merely glorified trails. If we start examining the purpose of roads and who they are intended for this arguement will never end. EVERYONE has a right to use the roads and EVERYONE around them has the obligation to respect that. Roads without shoulders are no different, they should just be avoided. Road use is a privilege, yes, but it is a privelege to everyone regardless of whether they are wealthy enough to own and operate a car, or choose to ride a bike. SHARE THE ROAD.
