Default Bikewire.net - Mapping Tool Released

We finished mapper for the most part and decided to release it at about 90%, still missing Mile Markers and GPS upload/download, but other than that it's fully functional and integrated with the site. The Mapper is public so that users not on BikeWire can create and browse maps. It uses the same elevation tactics as Gmap but the elevation actually shows (this happens after you save) and the extra icons that MapMyRide includes. We chose the Gmap USGS elevation option because it's more accurate than the MapMyRide auto refresh Database, wherever they get that from. When you create a map you have to place it into an area so that others in that area can find it and it is categorized properly.

BikeWire Main Page:

BikeWire Mapper:

Features:
- Custom Route Mapping
- Icon Placement (parking, restrooms, food, first aid, questions, phone)
- English or Metric Calculation (if selected or logged in)
- External Linking (post your maps URL on your website or blog)
- External Link to your Map List (open right now, soon to have privacy options as well) using your "My Maps" URL
- Distance / Total Ascent measurements
- Details / Cue Sheet section for custom directions
- Full search and sort for browsing
- Add / Remove Maps to your profile other have made

To Come Soon:
- GPS upload / download
- Mile Markers
- Select Map in Statbook to Auto Fill your ride data (distance / elevation)

We actually released this on Friday, but we let our users toy around with it to iron out the initial bugs. To those of you on the site that reported some problems, thank you very much, that was a big help.

We have a feedback form with a "Bug Report" option at http://www.bikewire.net/feedback.php for reporting any problems.

Thanks again to all of your that speak highly of the website. We're up to 680 users and you guys have logged over 190,000 miles so far this year!

I love it.

Tim
