Although I did not get into pop music, I still have to respect MJ as an artist and entertainer. The way that his personal problems and alleged transgressions were handled by the media was enough to drive anyone off the deep end. I am sorry that he has passed away because every time I turn on the radio or TV now, I have to suffer through another one of his songs or videos.

The media will beat the story into small pieces of unbearable crap before it is over which will probably leave me with a negative memory of MJ.
yeah, it's unfortunate that his life descended into a tabloid sideshow, justified or not.

But prior to all that, his 3 album run of Off The Wall, Thriller, and Bad is just ******* ridiculous.

What did I just say wrong?
Nothing, from where I'm sitting.

Still, as a person getting hammered by all the Jackson tributes on the radio, the one saving grace to hearing all of it is that, for the most part, it's pretty f'in good, if not great. "I Want You Back" is one of the 5 greatest pop songs ever performed, IMO.

Now that doesn't mean I think his later, uh, "issues", slide under the carpet, but musically he was rare.

Due to the fact that Michael Jackson is 99% plastic, he will be melted down into lego blocks so little kids can play with him for a change.

What do Michael Jackson and the guy who placed 2nd in the New York Marathon have in common? They both came in a little behind.

This is what I have to say about Michael Jackson.

"Off the Wall" is an excellent album and I enjoy listening to the songs from it.

He had a few hits, but so did many other pop singers. Catchy tunes. I bought a couple of his early 80's albums.

He did leave crotch grabbing on stage as one legacy, I suppose. That's something.

I'm sure many worthy but unknown people died that same day.

As an entertainer, MJ was at the top. But as a human being, he was far less impressive. Perhaps even arguably criminal. Regardless of his musical achievements, his personal conduct must be considered and remembered as part of his legacy. Sure, he wasn't convicted of anything, but neither was OJ for murder. Regardless, it's not normal for an "innocent" man to pay out a reported $23 million to the family of an alleged victim as part of a silence agreement and in order to not go to trial. Innocent people don't do this.

Would you allow your 10 y/o son to sleep in the same bed and stay at length in the house of a 40 y/o stranger who has been acused of other improper relations with minors? Not once, but numerous allegations. His celebrity status shouldn't negate him from the simple rules of society. Don't give me this "Peter Pan syndrome" crap, it's simply wrong on every level. Guys like MJ and Polanski shouldn't be treated or viewed differently because of their wealth and fame.

BTW, I actually like his music. The pre-Thriller stuff anyway. The later stuff was worthless.

Congrats! Because you've expressed your opinion about MJ without any personal or intimate knowledge, you are hereby knighted a "dickwad" by proxy.

So now you need to have "personal or intimate knowledge" to have an opinion, or you are automatcally branded a "dickwad"? Well, it appears that just about everyone who has contributed to this forum is a "dickwad" by tonyzachary's criteria. Or is this just his opinion, which happens to lack personal or intimate knowledge?

Tony, you're black, right?

Setting aside the pedophilia aspects of MJ's life and his musical talent, doesn't it disturb you that he clearly had no interest -- disdain, seemingly -- for who he was? A black man.

Taking the skin disease at face value, you still have the straightened hair/wig, the narrowed nose and lips, something going on around the corner of his eyes, his eyelids, a mouth you could cap with a manhole cover, and on and on.

Seriously. He didn't even remotely resemble a black man at the time of his demise.

I know Jamie Foxx said at the recent BET Awards, "We want to celebrate this black man. He belongs to us (the black community) and we shared him with everyone else."

I don't think I'd claim him.

I've got his cell number. I'll give him a call. Last I heard he was coaching Tyler Farrar. Something about bringing the power like Scotty.
