Lightbulb Helping other people

How many of us here like to help other people.I do it here and this is what I like to do for them.I build bicycle for other people that can not buy one at all for there kids.I build the low end but they still are good to ride.I have built 9 bikes so far to give away they are brand new parts frame and all tires wheels sterm you name it all I like to see the kids faces when there mom or dad gives it to them. This makes me feel good to see kids ride bike and not do drugs. So I just wanted to see if any one here does this besides me.Give it a try a smile on a kids face sure will give you a good feeling even if you think it cost to much to build one do it for the people that wants a bike but no other way would they be able to have one. There is hope in this world after all.Give a smile you may even get a smile back.

I see dead people, but when not doing that, I give to charity when I can. No extra dosh to be building bikes for others. There is a place in town, though, where people can go and build bikes from bike bits or wrench on their bikes for free. Bica's it's called.

There are several of those places around the US now. There was an article in Bicycling Magazine about them a couple of months ago. When I was kid, many years ago, there were several dumps in the area where people dumped their old bicycles among other junk.. They were the big heavy 26" ballon tire bikes, similar to beach cruisers, nothing high end. We used to go to to these and scavenge useable parts and assemble bikes out of them for our freinds who did not have a bike.

I have never assembled a bike for a stranger but I have saved many bikes that were put out for the trash, cleaned them up, made small repairs, and gave them to friends for their kids. I did one full restoration on a Lotus for a friend for his college bound daughter, and a full rebuild on a youth model Trek MB for another friend's son.
