I just did my usual after-work 20 miler. This is only my 5th ride on my new bike. I met up with some riders from a local club, and last time I rode with them was on my old bike about 3 weeks ago. Before today, I could just barely keep up with them and stayed in the back the whole time, and today I was feeling great and felt like everything was so easy. Even sprinting up hills was a breeze. I was in front almost the whole way and even had to slow down at times. Now, this group is not by any means pro or very fast, mostly in their mid 40's-50's, and keeps around 18-20 mph. One of the guys even joked and said they won't let me ride with them anymore cause I pulled too hard (I'm sure it was just to modivate), but it's a very relaxed group.

I just can not believe how big of a difference this bike is from my old one. It is huge (otherwise I got extremely better and stronger over a couple of days ).

Today's ride: 1:08:32

Burned up my vacation for the year right now.

There are some good rides once you get out of the SE part of the state and into the North Woods. Or the Great River Road.

Down here is pretty much the world's biggest cow pasture.

Bonked hard today trying to christen my new tires, being off the bike for a few weeks due to scheduling and uncooperative weather conditions I'm sure didn't help.

Route

Not to mention, a few miles into it, I realized that I forgot to change the tire setting in the comp since I changed tire sizes....

i know i rode 58. something miles out of the blue last week and it took me 3:43:33 at the all inclusive mph of 15.7 at the end and it was nonstop and it hurt at just about the 2:59:59 time into the ride but that was my last long ride. all the while in 39 x 13 and for more than half of it, into headwind in which i was barely able to manipulate 12-13 mph.

the real fun hasn't even begun.

Rides of 22 miles, 30 miles and 13.5 miles Friday, Saturday and Sunday, respectively. Friday on Peachy Canyon Road out of Paso Robles, CA, from my office, was the most scenic, awesome, but the whole county where I live and ride is gorgeous, great, rolly riding.

I did not take these pictures on a ride (I don't have a camera-equipped cell phone), but they are low-res versions of ones recently taken by my cycling buddy and professional photographer, Mark Winkler. It is a beautiful time of year here in Paso Robles. These views are typical to those from my driveway and where I pedal.

That doesn't look bad at all. Of course it would look even better with Walmart and Home Despot stores..........and Taco Bell.

We have all of those on the edge of town and within about 6 miles my house and of those scenes. And a new Lowes opened this weekend. It is nice, though that I can take a 50 mile loop from my house and not see any of that commercial development. Home Despot...I like that. I usually do say "Home De-Pot" but I think I will change to your version.

Of course Tucson, with a metro area population over 1 million bipeds, has a lot of those big box stores, but it doesn't take long at all before they're left behind. It gets desolate quickly as you pedal away from town.

Been riding for 2 months now and I am loving it! Last weekend my best friend and I huffed a 52 mile ride from my house into the hills of Portland OR and back. Average speed was 16.3 mph and surprisingly when I got home I was wishing I had done more. Its gonna be raining here for the next week or so, time to get a rain jacket and head back out! I am also in the market for a new saddle since the one that came on my bike (San marco ponza) isn't the greatest of platforms.
