Angry I hate my job!

I just needed to say out loud, write it down, type it....I HATE MY JOB!

I am in Red Bull (energy drink) sales here in Oregon. I worked for a different company that lost the brand and was transfered to a larger distributer. That company offered me a Management position with all the perks. After much thought as to what would be best for my career I accepted the position. I have been selling red bull for 6 years and WAS in management just long enough for me to train everyone and then have them tell me that my position was eliminated and I could either take a step down in sales or get laid off. of course I had to think of my family so I took the sales job and 2 weeks later they hired someone for the position they had just told me was eliminated! for the past 9 months I have been doing the sales and hating every moment of it. nothing I do is ever good enough, my DM is a total idiot and couldn't build a relationship with a $5 hooker, my direct manager is a never pleased, angry douche.
I get told to do something 1 way and then the next day get yelled at for not doing it a different way. I am told to make decisions by myself and then when I do, I get the third degree and written up for not consulting a manager before!!!

I want a new job SOOOO badly but I understand that right now it is just good to have a job and there are people worse off than I am. All of this is why I am needing to simply yell......I HATE MY JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I feel for ya...

Sounds like company politics as usual...For some reason, you're not "one of the good ol' boys"...better look into how you can get on their good side...good luck...

Look for a different job. You can still work and look.

I just got to a point that I had to stop complaining and not doing anything about it and start taking action and moving forward. I just finished up my resume and I'm hitting the streets. Luckily being in this industry as long as I have, I have built some great relationships and hopefully I can use them to get me into something new. I actually wouldn't mind finding an entirely new field.

I feel your pain brotha..... I'm a sales rep for Polar Beverages. It is exactly what you do. I'm based on STRAIGHT commission, and have one of the biggest routes in Mass. I run 11 supermarkets, and eventhough my last years W2 was around $70k, it didn't feel like it (uncle sam grabs $400+ every week). As far as management is concerned, it's like that in every corporation now-a-days. Also the people that work for me to put up what I order, are complete idiots, because the company won't pay over 11/hr and no full time hires.

All that being said, you have to consider yourself lucky to have a job today. A ton of grad student now get out of college and can't find work. HOLD ON TO WHAT YOU CAN, even if sometimes it sucks. Just my 2 cents.

Seeing newer people go ahead of you is tipical industry politics. Coke and Pepsi are the worst ones of them all. My friend is a Pepsi rep, the company is re-bidding all of their routes, and they're going by seniority. It's a joke, they aren't even union. It should be "pay-by-performance" and that's it. So now, even though he's one of the best in the region, he might loose his route.

I saw that happen first hand - to me - before I got into the electrical/fire protection business, in my first job from high school working in a plastic component factory. I was passed over for promotional opportunities by newer employees who knew less about the company than I did. It blows big time. Nowadays, seniority pretty much means nothing unless you're in a union.

The thing that is most difficult for me is my manager who go MY position is the son of one of our biggest accounts state wide. They tried to tell me it had nothing to do with the relationship they had with his dad...I call BS!!!!!!! (this is the guy who doesn't know how to build relationships) NOT that this is a bad thing and I need to be careful on how I say this because I dont want to offend anyone, but he stutters like a badly scratched dvd (again not that someone who stutters cant be succesful, my best friend has a bad stutter and is very successful) has NO self confidence, doesn't know what the hell he is talking about and most the time pisses off my clients and then leaves never to be seen in that account again. I hate my job.........

I'm not gonna get started on unions or seniority (I've seen plenty of senior staff bereft of neurons), but I am firmly in favor of performance based promotions and hiring.

It is a bad time to be in the wrong field, but I don't think the turn-around is that far away.

Bianchi, you've got to do more than just put out a decent resume. You need to know the companies to which you're applying and tailor your resume to positions they have available. Too many people write a one-size-fits-all resume. The only purpose of a resume is to nab you an interview, so sell what they're lookin' to buy.

I have my resume written out just as you described. I have ways to adjust my resume according to the company and job descriptions I am applying for.

It seems that these days there is no loyalty to the employees that has worked hard. You have to be in a position of unique knowledge and skills to have any security and hope your employer is sharp enough to recognize this.
Re-inventing yourself can be exciting and something to take pride in but usually requires patience.
I am not at the point of hating my job but I am a lot more resigned since things have certainly changed.
I am more concerned that disatisfied.
