Default I want to learn bike repair/maintanance

I am interested in learning to repair/maintain my road bike. What are the best resources for learning bike repair? (books, mags etc.)

Thanks.

Check with Bike stores in your area. There are many places that offer bike maintainence classes for a nominal fee.

Sheldon's site is one of the best around for do it yourself articles. I would buy one of the maintenance books that Bicycling magazine puts out. They're well written and have a lot of good information.

It all depends on how mechanical you already are. If you have a good sense of it already, then take your bike apart and put it back together, thats the best way to learn it. Go slow, and pay attention. I didnt know a thing when I put my first bike together. I bought all the pieces, the frame, and went to town. It took me almost all night. It's been running 2 years without a single problem. Now, I'm working as a mechanic in a bike shop. So just play around with it, have fun, pay atention.

If you are in England the only decent mechanic's course is that run by the genial Alf Webb and his wife Thersa out there in Spalding, Lincolnshire. The Bike Inn www.bike-inn.co.uk

If you are really serious and want to work in a bike shop anywhere in the country, then...

2 week course at United Bicycle Institute in Ashland Oregon. Go to

The Barnetts manuals are a great idea for an up and coming professional mechanic, but might be a little overkill and expensive for someone who just wants to learn to repair their own bike.

Park Tool (www.parktool.com) is an excellent resource. You could easily spend a day on that site learning stuff.
