110 BCD FSA chainrings

Hi all , I have an Energy compact FSA crankset I use on my 'cross bike and i want to change the outer ring for a 42 tooth instead of the 50.

My problem is that FSA don't offer a 42 tooth road ring. I was wondering if any of you knew if I could use a 110 BCD Downhill chainring on my road crank...I think it would probably work but I don't want to order it and find its not working.

I duno what makes a ring a 'downhill' ring.Any normal 42 110 will work,so why not just go there.

have you contacted fsa? if not, email them. they've always been quick to answer my questions, and they sometimes have products not listed on the website.

I don't know either but they classify some under that name, as for other companies my LBS doesn't have any available 42 only 40s and 44s.

If I had to guess, I'm gonna say a downhill ring has no shift ramps and pins. Generic rings don't either. If you want flawless shifting, a pinned and ramped ring is the better bet,but I use non ramped ones with no issue.

ok thx, But shifting won't be much of an issue as I'll be using a 34-42 so with such small difference it'll be changing gears pretty easy and i won't use it that much since its for 'cross
