Default Campag 10s drive on Shimano 10s cassette

I have Shimano wheels which are staying, I want to upgrade to either Ultegra 10 or Centaur 10s. To get Campag to work on a shimano cassette I'd have to install a shim to angle the rear deraileur out 16.5 deg (so horizontal shift per pull is 3.95mm from 4.12mm.

you can't put a campag cassette on a shimano freehub

I was wondering what the cable pull per throw is on each system.

Anyone know?

I'd prefer Ultegra 10 but it is 25% more expensive and weighs the same and doesn't have replaceable bits inside. My 105 is cactus after 20,000km.

I'm afraid I can't help you with the cable throw issue, but the derailer is probably fine - the shifter may have worn out. Have you tried the Shimano STI service kit? A good flush with WD40 extends the life of STI shifters by clearing out the gunk that accumulates in there. If you haven't tried it out, give it a go before spending anything else...

I've tried flushing it and then filling it with white lightning, I get it working for a bit. It has probably done 100,000 shifts or more

the front der got bent out of shape, The rear der is wobbly and so are the jockey wheels - and need new chainrings so that is ~AU$700 not inc new chain and cassette total ~850 - Brand new Centaur is $995 New Ultegra is $1245.

I haven't tried an STI service kit - nor have I ever heard of it - where on the web (other than shimano website) so you find them?

Campy and shimalo cog spacing differs by about .2mm. Close enough that campy shifter and RD also works with a shimano cassette. Duno if they are out yet, for 10 soeed, but the shiftmate device makes is so campy and shiman work together. Depending on the wheels, the hub body might also be changable.

There really is no such thing. There are a few minor bits available, but if the guts are hosed, it's new shifter time.

Sheldon Brown said they should work out fine it is a 1.2mm overshift between cogs 2 and 9. I have shimano wheels so you can't get a campag compatible freehub (design doesn't allow it)

Where do you find out about shiftmates?

Too bad the OP's shifter had already been "serviced", hence is destined for the bin.

It's all fixed

Stupid problem really but it was the combination that got me.

Anyway Shiftmates are at www.jtekengineering.com but google didn't find them.

105 have been serviced using degreaser in a can (high pressure) emptied into the ratchet etc then a petrol (gas) bath and shifted whilst immersed then degreased again. plus replaced the old cable with a DA stainless jobby. Working good as new - hopefull y at least another 20,000
