That explains why it got removed. Just got my Fortius.......At the moment it has been more than a little frustrating. The assembly instructions leave more than a little to be desired. Once those issues were overcome, the motor unit appears to be dead. I'm working with the Tacx support, which has been helpful but for the moment I appear to be down for the count. This is a very nice trainer and I'd really like to get back using it but I'm more than underwhelmed in the setup of the whole thing.

Sorry to hear that rimcrazy. Hope things work out quickly.

A question to all of you Fortius users. I live in an apartment, and would be somewhat limited in where I could place the whole set-up to ride by where my computer is.

How simple would it be for me to 'set up' my bike and the Fortius each evening after dinner for my ride, and then take it apart and stow it until the next ride (can't leave it in the entrance way in front of the door to the kitchen!).

Thanks!

It will be easier if you don't get the front fork attachment. Then you can fold up the rear wheel unit and place it away. It takes a little longer to set up and take down than a traditional trainer as you need to hook up the cadence sensor (a must), you should use their quick release hub as it fits there mounting better and you need to plug in the USB. Once you've done it a few times it goes quick.

OK, thanks, I do not intend to get the front fork thingie. Quick release hub? Sorry, missed that one - does Tacx sell a hub that I would use to build up a new wheel? Can you provide a link...

You don't need to buy anything it comes with it. It is the skewer that goed through the rear axle for quick relese of the wheel. The Tacx is round with 90 degree edges so it fits snug into their uprights to hold your rear wheel.

Considering the Tacx with the steering unit doesn't take up too much more space than a bike (albeit, you can't hang it up), I would say it's perfect for an apartment. Certainly takes less space and is far lighter than an elliptical or Bowflex, etc.

Love mine, only suggestions I have for them are:

1) Wireless cadence sensor for convenience.

2) Internet connectivity to race against others.

I'm really interested in getting a pair of VR glasses to use with this...

I love my Fortius also, it has been a god sent as far as increasing my power output this winter. I have the steering unit and it is a whole different world from a normal trainer. You get caught up in racing against and drafting other virtual riders (some of them being your previous rides).

They now have a driver for the Netathlon software, which lets you compete live against other riders on the Internet.

How does this connect to Netathlon software? I'd really like to see about getting this hooked up to the net, without having to buy a new Fortius (seems like they have a new model that connects to the internet).

You do not need a new trainer if you have a i-magic to ride online.

The older Fortius software & the new about to be released TTS software both are compatible with the older "Tacx i-magic VR trainer". Both sets of software have a online option.

TTS software can generate a 3d terrain from your GPX or KML data or allow you to ride your training routes via Google earth. The latest Real Life Videos link in with this so you can see your location in Google Earth while watching 1600px wide video of the same spot! Kind of cool to be able to switch away from the video of some long Col to see visually how far it is to the top & how far ahead/behind those racing you online are!

Older Fortius software has all the detailed VR terrains like the Velodrome etc.

Default Tacx Fortius

I'm going to bump and old thread to the top again with a few new questions about the fortius in hopes that Phil can tap in.

1) Since the new motor brake upgrade for the 110V systems has been implemented. If I were to buy a new unit I want to make sure it has the new motor brake. What do I look for on the unit that tells me it's the newer style?.

2) I'd like to use the unit for more than just riding to the VR vid's do I need the Mutli player add on to say ride against a few friends in the neighborhood?.

Thanks
