hi all

i finally did it. i went out and got my new wheels! after alot of thought and consideration i went with the HED3c's, they are a really nice wheel. the Guy had done the Hawii Iron man a few times and recomended these over the other more expensive zipps he had in stock. i figured the power tap fitting was not nessisary because i use my computer with the speed and cadence display to maintin my times. As some one said earlier an aero wheel is good when your going fast but a light wheel is always good and with the Heds being lighter than the Zipp's i figured these were the ones. The sales man sold them to me for 2000AUD, with 2 tires pre-glued on there, a spare tire, the co2 applicator to pump the tires up. 2 skewers, the glue and a dura-ace racing cassette so i can have a racing and training casette. the only downside is that they are in a box on the other side of the pacific waiting to clear customs!
thanks for everyone help, look for me, ill be the "want to be" with a set of HED wheels on going at about 10km/h, in the aero position.

i've read this thread with considerable interest, having to make a like decision probably after the first of the year (waiting for year end bonus). I went into this only considering the purchase of a disk rear, aero front, but after much thought in the matter I do think the Zipp 808 set with a PT is the way to go for me. Being able to closely match your instantaneous power output to your targeted desired output during a TT is appealing and would seem to at a minimum offset the aero loss compared to a rear disk. Even if it just balances out, having the metrics available from an occasional training ride and having a more flexible wheel for when the winds pick up and the disk is not an option is enough to push me to get the 808s over the 909s. I've seen enough team members come off an expected fast TT ride only to find out that they were not pushing their limits and had a slower than expected time to see the benefits a PT provides.

If you don't have to make a decision until after the 1st of the year, hold off as long as possible to see if Zipp introduces their disc with PT hub. They have it, they just haven't decided to market it. Better yet, send the director of marketing a letter and tell them you want to buy it. Maybe that will push them over the top. Of course, you still have the issue of the wind, so maybe that will mean 2 rear wheels. But, that's the case anyway.

Sorry for late reply, been busy with trade shows all the place. Jus heading to the one in London and then its off to Taiwan and then Tokyo.

Yes the WE is my company Pro-Lite. www.pro-lite.net

I find your comments on this site really informative and it helps me personally understand what todays riders are thinking when it comes to products benefits and features.

Trying to collect the right information to make an informed statement is not that easy in the bicycle business as after some 31 years involvement I have to say that I do find it amusing to see the wheel often been re-invented - pardon the punn.

We are active in preparing data to show the power outputs of various wheels and for sure we will make this available when we ave finished it. When doing this you have to make the test fair and also ensure the test can be carried out exactky the same on each product you test.

If any of you budding test pilots ever fancy a trip to Taiwan, I would be happy to accomodate you for a few days and take you to some amazing mountains where we do have a lot of fun testing products. Those of you not used to altitude come on down. After a few days riding at 10000 feet you will go like a rocket when you get back down to sea level.

I am aways contactable through the website and always try to reply within 24 hrs to everyone.

Thanks again for the feedback and comments.

Steve
